Hey everyone. I found my Alanon meeting last night. I've been to a couple different ones, but last night I found the one I was looking for.
To be honest, the others were nice, but I just didn't connect with what they were saying. Last night I found a group that seems to approach things in a way that really touched me. I am totally excited about it.
I wanted to post this mostly for people who may be new to alanon, like me. If you are lucky enough to live in a place where there are different groups, don't be afraid to shop around if your first experience leaves you cold. And probably, if there aren't a variety of meetings, just keep going back as I am sure the dynamics shift from meeting to meeting.
Anyway, that experience was wonderful, and I am looking forward to really getting into the program now. Thanks everyone who recommended alanon.
ps- The meeting last night reminded me of a game I play on the bus, "desert island," where I imagine what it would be like if I suddenly found myself stranded with my fellow passengers. It was just this random group of people, talking about very deep things and making themselves extremely vulnerable to each other. It totally blew me away to feel so connected to those who were, an hour ago, strangers. So powerful.

I did the same thing about a year ago-hopping from meeting to meeting until I found my home group that I just love and cannot wait to go to every week!

Thank you for this message...I have been struggling with going to an Alanon meeting. Nervous, scared, and generally worried that it will be filled with people actually LIVING with their A and I have made the decision NOT to live with mine. So I guess I've been worried that I wouldn't get much out of it, but everyone keeps telling me to give it a try. I am going to try to get up the courage to go this weekend...
