My son, his lump and my needing support
We went to see him today. He is realy scared.
He is in a work relase program and has 8 months left to come home.
He is coughing a lot, has lost weight and looks frightened. He says there is a lump in his throat. You can't see it on the outside, but he feels it inside his throat.
He said he passed out at work Thurs, and they took him to a nurse. She took his blood pressure and temp, and let him go.
He has to go through all this crap to see a doc because most of the inmates try to get out of work by feigning illness. So, it's hard to get in to a doctor! Here he is seriously needing help, and they don;t want to help. I don't get it.
Please pray that he will see a doctor this week.
I thought he had an appointment already, but aparantly not!
Here is step one for me. I am completely powerless to do anything, at least that I know of! Am I missing anything that I could do?
I fasted and prayed for him yesterday that he will be ok.
Oh the gutwrenching pain, like no other, when it's one of our children.
Thank you everyone for being so very supportive.

In the past I have called the prison (a dr. was seen in less than 48hrs.), called by state rep and he got hold of the prison and care was received in less than 24 hrs. I think sometimes a phone call works miracles, it did for us a couple yrs. ago.
Prayers for your son and your family!!!!!!!

There are so many things this could be.. such as over active thyroid issues etc. which are treatable.
While "hands off the Addict" is the code of codies, I think there is a time for intervening and those times are when the addict is obviously sick or in need of immediate medical care.
I like the idea of calling your State elected Representative if your son is in State prison (local rep if he is in county jail etc.) and the prison is unresponsive to you. I would be on the phone a lot now.. there is truth to the squeeky wheel getting the grease.

My ah had been in work release about 4 different times - there they are always assigned a counselor. Call the counselor let them know your concerns, ask them your options - they also usually have a general furlough - your son can fill the paper work out with a destination and phone number, the counselor signs it - then you can even take him to your personal physician if needed.
Wascally Wabbit,
IMO, I would call. The reason I would call, although we don't have to have a reason, is because he IS in jail.
My son had an abcessed tooth while in jail, which was left untreated, and spread throughout his sinuses, by the time they placed him on an antibiotic. At the time, I did nothing, but prayed.
This sounds a little more serious than an abcessed tooth.
IF it is something, then quicker is better than later.
Just my thoughts.

It could be alot of things, from swollen lymph nodes to thyroid problems and beyond. He needs to see one of the doctors or assistant. He is entitled to medical care.
prayers for you and yours,

Sending prayers as well.
I once had a "lump" that felt as if I had a golf ball in my throat. I was scared as heck.
It turned out to be strep. A round of antibiotics later I was good as new.
Prayers that all turns out OK
(((Hugs)))

I can't tell you what you all mean to me!
I am taking the advice and CALLING tomorrow.
I can get so frantic sometimes that I lose a direction. Now I have one thanks to you all.
You have helped tremendously and I will get busy tomorrow.
Thanks so much. I will keep you all updated as soon as I know something.

Wascally, I am glad you feel better and have chosen a course. I agree that a phone call is a good idea, with a follow up to a state representative if the jail is unresponsive. I know our addicted loved ones need to face their consequences, but when those consequences include inadequate medical attention, I don't believe it is jumping back into their stuff to make those calls. It truly bothers me to know that this type of stuff is more the nrom than the exception in our system...It is just plain wrong, in my opinion.
I am praying for your son...I do hope he gets medical care soon and whatever it is can be quickly remedied. Hugs and prayers.
