NA or MA for a pothead
I need to stop smoking pot now, i rarely drink (when i do i dont stop) i am a daily pot smoker and i cant say no to vicodin (but rarely use it as i cant get it). I dont want to go to a meeting that wont fit me. Do you think i would be better off in NA or MA? there are both in my area.

Go to MA and hang out with all the ex-pothead.
But after a while it'll be relatively the same once you get
into the focus of living. Who knows...you might like it better
in NA or AA.
I don't have MA,GA,CA in my area..so you do the best with
what you have...gatta do what you gatta do.
It's about change and if i waited until I'll change when it's
to my liking or fit in...I probably would be dead by now.
After all i did get high to fit me and that didn't work out to good.lol

My daughter started smoking pot when she was 12...developed a 20 year addiction (including other substances) of which I was unaware. She either hid it well, or I was too involved in my own active alcoholism to notice. She's now 12 years clean and sober through NA...works a great program, and is very active in her group and area.
Oh...I guess I don't have to say how proud I am of her.

ok, just got back from NA meeting. There was a MA meeting tonite in my area too but the NA meeting was closer.
People were nice and it seemed like everyone wanted to smile and make eye contact with me when I went up and got my 1 day keychain. That was nice, I usually hate making eye contact with people because they are fake but I think these people were real, they seemed like real people, accepting and genuine. I think they were truly happy that I stood up and went to the front.
I met a guy after the meeting that does a breakfast meeting on Sunday so I am going meet him then.
I came back to work to get my mind of using and the next meeting I found (MA) is tomorrow morning.
What do I do now? What is the next step?

Hi Radiocraig. Welcome to SR. I'm glad you went to a meeting and congratulations on your 24 hour key chain. We have chips in my area.
I'd say the next step if your serious is not to use one day at a time (or a minute at a time if you have to) and keep going to meetings.
Keep reading and posting on here to let us know how your doing.

Hi radiocraig and welcome!
I'm an alcoholic, but I saw somehtng in yuor post after the meeting i wanted to point out that you're doing that is very important -
going to the meeting on Sunday, and connecting with the fella who runs it.
That's how it's done. Connect with as many of those people as you can, they're ther to help you - and you're helping them.
That's how all these programs are supposed to work. USE the call sheet.
You're off to a great start if you continue to do that.
Good for you!

wat to go!
Way to go Radiocraig!! 5 days is awesome. Today (Tuesday) is day 7 for me. I havent gone to any meetings yet, but have been looking up to see when and where they are. I'm in a small town in MN. I anm an alcoholic, but I did atend NA here for a while and I really liked, even better than the AA groups here. I dunno, it seemed like a younger, fresher, fun crowd there and they offered the same support as the AA group did. I guess you just find the group that suits you and go for it. I am sure personalities in a group matter, just as they do in daily life..there are people you like and those you dont. And also some people will like you and some will not, no matter what you do. I think I will hit a bunch of groups and see where I fit in.
I do really love this site. There is no judging, and it's no small town where people know everybody. Here in my town..I used to work with families who had kids in trouble..well I saw a lot of them again in meetings..I felt stupid, sort of, and on one hand it was good for them to see me as human too but it created a bit of a problem with professional boundaries on the job. So, I think this site for now is best for me, and maybe groups in another town or something.
Anyway...way to go!!!
