Sixty Days Sober!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

today i am 60 days sober and very happy about that! I have been taking oxycodone for a torn muscle in my back- wow, its a very similar feeling to drinking- numbs everything right out! I can totally see how people get addicted to pain meds-

I have 4 health issues which involve chronic pain, and ive always managed to stay away from pain pills

as winter is approaching my symtoms get worse to the point where i am laying on the couch in tears unable to move- What kind of pain meds are safe for the alcoholic?

i have 5 more pills left and im done with that mess. It takes alot for me to go into the ER and ask for help but my back hurt too much, i was in agony-all i did was stretch and something went "pop!"

My Dr prescribed elavil and tramadol for the osteo arthritis and fibromyalgia pain, and i havent taken one single pill yet.

Im starting my wedding photography business and i cant let pain stop me from making money or even just living my life like everyone else.

any suggestions on treating chronic everyday pain????

i have Multiple Sclerosis,OsteoArthritis,Fibromyalgia and Raynaudes syndrome, any info would be greatly apprecitated,

i DO not want to get hooked on pain pills!!!!!
But i want to be able to work without pain

hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllp

thanks so much
the 60 day sober Maria!

I suffered incredible pain before and after my back surgery so I can relate.

I was sober at the time but I did get hooked on the pills. When they finally ran out I reached for the bottle.

Now I alternate between aspirin and advil and I am ok.

Don't know what to say except be honest with the docs.

Hi Maria, 6

Happy SIXTY DAYS SOBER!!!

I also have rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis & fibromyalgia. I cannot take pain meds....they make me crazy and when they gave me morphine in the hospital after my back surgery, I stopped breathing in the middle of the night....I woke up in ICU...was having hallucinations...the whole mess...couldn't even feed myself. They discontinued the Morphine and gave me Viocodin that did the same thing to me....crazy acting.

When I got home I weaned myself off the Vicodin and took Ibuprofin until I saw my docs on Tuesday and got put back on my Celebrex, Methocarbamol, & Hydroxyquine ..which is all I take for my pain. Methocarbamol is a muscle relaxer & the other two are anti-inflamatories.

If I am having a big flare-up I take some Ibuprofen which helps some.

I have always been afraid of pain meds and it seemed they never worked and made me feel weird. I certainly don't want to find something that might lead me back to drinking. It has happened to people I know.

My husband takes Oxycotin for his Chronic Pain and they have had to up the dosage over time but he seems to manage okay now. He needs a hip replacement and also a shoulder replacement. He walks with crutches since he is an amputee and they have contributed to his joints wearing out. He quit wearing his prothesis after his back got bad from using it. So has been on crutches many years.

The doc wants to do the hip replacement first so we will see what happens. He had a knee replacement after he retired and it did well. He also had surgery on his wrists for carpol tunnel due to the use of crutches. We never thought about the long term use of them and what it was doing to his joints along with his arthritis.

Hope you are better soon. I know there are some meds for pain out there that aren't addictive but I sure don't know their names.

Simplysober, Congratulations on 60 Days.

I also live with chronic pain. I have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. It was caused from an ex husband. All i take is Tylenol Arthritis and use moist heat. I was on Prescribed. drugs years ago when I was first diagnose, but i wasn't on them long. I'm an alcoholic and was scared to mix the two. So i just dealt with the pain until i couldn't work any more. Now that I'm getting sober I'm learning to deal with my disability sober.

I think i also have Raynaulds syndrome. I've never met anybody else with this condition before. Other then wearing hats and gloves in cold weather do you do anything else?
Have a nice day.

Sixty days is awesome simplysober .

I have Raynaud's. I mainly try to avoid extreme changes in temperature & keep my hands warm. Sometimes this means gloves in the grocery store in summer lol. Since I don't have any of the other diseases that sometimes manifest along with Raynaud's I opted not to take the medications my doctor was offering for me to try. I don't like being a guinea pig. My fingers do turn painful and frozen white at times though and it does hurt I know.

Here's 2 sites with some info. If you google there are many more.

thank you SO much for info on raynaudes! its hard to find good info on it! i hear ya about wearing gloves in the grocery store!!!!!! frozen foods are hell! 2 pairs of socks- 2 layers of pants- hats- ear muff things- scarfs!!!! i hate when i start to shake violently and it attracts attention and i have to explain myself- i usually just manage a grin and tell them thru my chattering teeth that im fine- lol i was considering taking something for it- my Dr says we are gonna wait to see how the other 2 drugs which i have yet to take do for me- Today im stopping the oxycodone early- my back feels better and im gonna just stop early- dont want to have to deal with them anymore- ive been in a fog all week on them- i thought yesterday was tuesday all day and today i thought it was saturday! not good but kinda funny and the meds stop today! done
