Halfway Houses

How do you find out about soberliving and or halfway houses? My daughter will be in either Maryland or, North Carolina (after her inpatient rehab, should be 45 days or more)..........and how do you know good they are as far as a structured environment? Thanks

Often the counselors at rehab facilities work hard with placements and have good recommendations.

My daughter's rehab facility recommended a place. Check with them if you haven't already.

Oxford houses are usually nicer than halfway houses. Residents of Oxford houses vote and decide who gets to move in when they have space. People directly from jail are sometimes sent to halfway houses and don't want to be there. Halfway houses are still shelter from the storm, a kitchen to cook supper. Rules that must be obeyed are absolute in both houses.

The houses ,be they Oxford or halfway houses, are very individual due to the current personalities living there.

My son has lived in both at one time or the other. They are not so bad

I've had two experiences. The first once recommended by the rehab was a waste of money, didn't do anything they said, and ultimately, AD was gone in less than a week--with another teen they placed there at the same time from the same place.:wtf2

Second experience from a LCDC w/ 28 years clean who works counseling teen/kids. He worked w/ this place for years and knows several he continues to use. PM is you'd like the web site. I have been impressed w/ the way things are done there and it is out of state!!! AD's request to get out of Dallas, and seems to be a good choice. They have women there from Alaska, Florida, etc.

Be careful, check w/ others, save youself some $$$ and heartache!

:praying
