Info on suggested reading please
It has been suggested that I read "Under the Influence" and "Codependent No More"... but when I searched for these books I found many under these titles with vary. For example there is a "Codependent No More: How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself" and "Codependent No More: Beyond Codependency" - both by Melody Beattie. "Under the Influence" returned "Under the Influence: A Guide to the Myths and Realities of Alcoholism", "Under the Influence" by Alvin Schmidt, "Under the Influence" by Alan Jackson, etc.
Would it be possible for someone to let me know which of these is the Codepent No More and Under the Influence I've seen mentioned and recommended? It would be great to put up a sticky with book info....
Thanks

"Under the Influence: A Guyide to the Myths and Realities of Alcoholism" Dr. James R. Milam and Katherine Ketcham
"Without Conscience: The Disturbing World of the Psychopaths Among Us"
Robert D. Hare
Both great books!

Second one. I would suggest reading the first one first.
You may also see (by the same author) The Language of Letting Go, which is a book of daily meditations. Also very helpful.

Under the Influence - Ketchum and Milam and Beyond the Influence - Ketchum.
Also - Getting Sober - Gorski & Miller
And any of the Alanon books - Paths to Recovery, How Alanon Works and the daily readers - Hope for Today and Courage to Change.
I wish you the best.

Here's another one I'm working on: "How to Break Your Addiction to a Person" by Howard M. Halpern, Ph.D. It helps you figure out why you're addicted to the person you're addicted to. The best thing I've gotten from it so far is the question "Is this the only person in the world who can make you happy?" I realized the answer is NO! and that gives me a lot of peace at times.
