My wife is proud of me!
My drinking has been a problem in my marriage for years. It's affected just about every aspect of the relationship.
Yesterday was my second day of not drinking. My wife asked me why I decided to stop. I told her it was because I wanted our marriage back, I wanted to get my career back, and I wanted to be able to focus on my ailing parents.
With a big smile, she said, "I'm so proud of you."
Man, that felt good!

The calm before the storm. Things will change in your household. They will change for the better, but humans are resistant to change. Your Wife is no exception. Early in sobriety there were several times when my wife said she liked me better when I was drinking. Reason being was that she knew how to deal with me. She had something to blame my behavior on. I wasn't perfect. That's what she expected. I was no longer allowed to be anything but stable. I wasn't allowed to have good days and bad days, I wasn't allowed to be angry, sad, grouchy, irritable, etc... I really tossed a wrench into the machine when i quit. This is pretty common and don't take it seriously if your wife says it too. It will pass.
I'm want our marriage back too. I'm working very hard to do that. We're going to counseling together which is a huge help in understanding each other and learning to communicate. It will take some time for me to have her trust me again. But I'm going in the right direction.
Add me to the "proud" list Fitz
And hold on to each other tight - if you truly love each other you can rise above this demon. My husband passed away 2 yrs. ago - back when we were happily married drinking buddies no one took the helm - we enabled each other. It is ludicrous that he lies in his grave and his son and I are without him, all because of a substance!! He'd been drinking since he was 15 & the disease finally did it's work. This never has to happen to you. Sending prayers your way!
