Developing close friends in AA
it takes time, no doubt. after 20+ months of sobriety, i have FINALLY found 3 really close friends. they are extremely solid. one is 26 and will have 7 years sober in a few months. the other is 26 and is coming up on 5 years. and the third is 24 and coming up on 6 years. talk about "winners" and they are the definition of it. even though they combine for 15 years of sobriety and are so young....its the fact that they make meetings, work steps, actively participate with sponsors, have commitments, work with new comers, pray, etc that really inspires me. i want to be just like that. all of our b-days and anniversaries are within a few months of each other.
its a miracle i found them! being able to let my guard down and not have to worry about them relapsing is huge. we knew alot of the same people from HS. such a miracle. every wednesday we go out after our home group and on saturdays we drive to the burbs for a meeting and hang out all night. all we do is laugh.
thank God for sober friendship. its just amazing! ive been dreaming of having close friends since i came home broken and beaten from my 3rd semester in college. ive finally found it. God is good and is making my wildest dreams come true.
