Day 38!
hi everybody-
today im at my 38 day sober mark! ive been really busy and havent posted since day 34 i think- well 4 days flew by-
Im a heavy smoker and i want to quit now- i well, 38 days ago stopped the drinking, and then shortly after that started weight watchers- lost 20 lbs
i need to lose more- SO i think im headed to the quit smoking forum- im addicted to quitting things now! LOL
seriously tho- at 5 bucks a pack - i go thru way too much money on this discusting habit- when i saw 60 dollars worth of cigarette packs in a wastebasket i nearly freaked! it was like beckonning me- "maria time to quit this now!"
wow, ive come to really enjoy my cigs- then again, the drinking was quitting something i "enjoyed" or thought i did.
I would love for my hair and clothes and house to smell smoke free-
here i go again
on the qutting wagon
hugs
maria

Hi!
Congratulations for your 38 days! Keep going!!
I ought to quit smoking too. Before I was smoking about 12 - 15 a day, if I didn't drink that is. If I drank it was 40 - 60 a day. But during the past 10 days since I've been on the wagon I'm smoking about 20 - 25. Too much.
I'm also going to have to join Weight Watches too if I continue eating like this. Since I've sobered up I just can't stop eating: carbahydrates and suger; chocolate; ice cream; Coca-Cola. I guess I must have put on 10lbs/5kg already!! lol
I guess I might join you soon in the Quitting Smoking section then!
Take care.

Cool Maria! Well done on the sober time.
I quit smoking at the same time as quitting drinking. Wish I had staggered it a bit like you. Good luck with beating the cigs!!
By the way, the cost here is terrible too. Theyre about $13 per pack now.

I will share what a specialist told me just before I went into detox, he told me to totally focus on my main problem first which was drinking, he suggested I not quit until I was SOLID in my sobriety because a war is much easier one fighting on a single front then on 2 fronts because if one front collapses the other may collapse as well.
Well I had one year sober on the 18th of Sept. and quit smoking that day, I can still say my sobriety is rock solid and using the 12 steps to help with the smoking the cancer sticks have been real easy compared to the booze!!!!
If you can quit both more power to you, but if you get a strong hankering for a drink grab a smoke first, I have never heard of any one getting a DUI from a cigarette.

quitting smoking....
Hi Maria,
Good Job on your sobriety days!
I quit drinking first and many years later made several attempts to quit smoking. The third try worked. I had changed to the lightest cigarette I could buy..Carlton & then joined an online support group for quitting smoking. I also worked jigsaw puzzles at the kitchen table...my husband would help do the puzzle while we had our morning coffee.
It worked!!! It has been about three years now but I did have a hard time even applying the AA 12 steps. I totally enjoyed smoking. My Mom died of complications with COPD and was on a respirator in a specialty nursinghome for the last two years of her life. She couldn't quit smoking but of course did when she was in ICU and the nursinghome. I don't want to die that way so had made up my mind that I would quit no matter how many times I tried to quit. My doc gave me Welbutrin to help but it made me manic so I didn't use any kind of aid but many people do and are successful. My doc felt if someone wanted to continue chewing the gum....it was much less harmful than smoking the cigarettes.
