I mean...really!!! what am I thinking???

Another partially sober day. Sleepy, out of it, little accomplished--(Monday anyone?) LIFE IS NOT ENDLESS... Just threw out the last of the drink.

Dammit. I hate this.

Anyone else in the same boat? Care to try for a sober weekend?

Alyce

Yes, I am in the same boat - I had to drink this morning to shake off the DT's and thank God they have gone, and it looks like they will leave me in peace now until I drink again...

I plan to ensure that will never happen Alyce, as there is no way I'm putting myself through a day like yesterday again!!!

My weekend will be a sober one!!!

I hope your will be too...

Why not start right now Alyce?

I'm glad you got rid of the alcohol, so this is a good time to start your sober life!

Don't know what part of the US you live in; but, there are plenty of meetings all over on the weekends! That would be my best advice...I know it worked for me

Hi Alyce,

My name is Stephanie and I am an alcoholic. I don't need to have a drink anymore and I am free to live life to the full. A big part of my recovery was realising I had no control over when and how much I drank.

You can do this. You are not alone anymore and we are in this together. Keep posting this weekend. There will be lots of people here to "hold your hand" and you will get lots of helpful advice.

What were you thinking?

This is a MIND powered disease.......our minds believe we can keep drinking with different results.

Our thought life is unmanagable.

That's why we drink.......the actual drink is not the problem, it's the solution.

Without the solution, we don't know how to handle life.

Make sense to you?

Just keep on trying Alyce,at least you resolve to keep trying each day.Any time that i have decided enough is enough i have failed and then forgotten about it for another few months.Whats the point? I haven't the willpower,i like it,it makes me happy,it makes me unhappy etc,you know what its like.I have found this first week surprisingly easy, but i have worked a lot including every morning, some afternoons and a few nights as well.Finished now and not back until midnight Sunday so i'm entering the danger zone.I can't imagine a Saturday without alcohol,i'll have to get on here later because i know that will help.Only too happy to get through the weekend with you and many others, take care.

MyGraySkies, Rusty Zipper, Dave47 (funny, I read that as "daze47"-shows you where my mind is), Wander1971, Nogard/Kevin, MissCommunicat, 1_day_@_at_a_time, aloneandinsane, Dee74, Karimpatim, Pilgrim/Stephanie, Jersey Nonney, 51Anna, RK2007,

Thanks for all your replies; they are a great help. I listed all of you above, because I don't want to forget that we all are dealing with this.

Can anyone explain the "buddies" option" to me? I'd like to put you all in there.

Alyce

Aylice,

I had to get to the point that my life was in critical danger...I was truly knocking on deaths door...It was only then that I truly surrendered and asked for help with my alcoholism...

Try asking yourself, how much more pain are you willing to endure? I hope you don't have to go down the path I have...

Thinking of you...

Not sure how that works; but, heck, you know you've got us as buddies, officially or not!

Where I am, it's 1:00 pm on Saturday...which means we are all 1/4 of the way through our sober weekend. Yee-hah!!!

I am in!!! Thanks sweetie you made me smile and remember my first days it is so hard and so worth not having to take (or feel you had to take) that drink to just get off the couch! Hangin I am a strong supporter of the telephone, get some numbers of ppl who will support you....check in see if there is a meeting near you and just go, but take care of you one second to the next if you cannot do it just for today... Stay Safe and Strong!

Hi Alyce.
Even those who have been sober for a long time had to start with the first day. We have all been where you are now. Best to not think past the day. Keep posting and reading the boards. Be good to yourself and take it easy.
Good luck. I did it. I got past that first weekend. You can too.

i'm not an alcoholic, but a dyed in the wool, card carrying codie, black belt al-anoninan, who wishes you the absolute best with the sober weekend.

now, used to, i would offer to come and count your drinks, pour out the alcohol, snoop around, and watch ya like a hawk, while delivering speeches.....which of course never worked.

so i will do something now that i know works.....i will send up prayers for all here to be blessed with peace.

much love and huge hugs to you all
jeri
