Yes!

The things that we do to ourselves during addiction are quite terrible. It takes a toll on our bodies, our minds and our souls. The thing is that you can't change what has happened and all you can do is deal with today and try to live a good, healthy life today. If you talk to your dr, you might feel much better.

My uncle Bobby was like that, He drank for 40 years 15 of which he was afraid to go see someone. He died of scerosis 2 years after he went to the doctor. The doctor said had he came to him earlier they could've helped him.

Honestly, if you think it might be a problem, then it might be.

Just take care of yourself. Make sure you're ok first and foremost.
My suggestion is do it. At least talk to someone. you never know how more beautiful living you could have left.

Do you mind if I ask how much he drank?

He was drinking in his final stages about a 1.75 of vodka a day

Probably for the last 3-4 years. Before that it was about a pint or two daily

When I first started using coke I would get these terrible pains in my chest. I mean, I actually started taking aspirin before I would do a line. How silly is that? "I don't want to have a heart attack so I am going to take this pill before I snort a deadly drug up my nose." Oh yes - the tangled mind of an addict.

My point - even after being 5 months sober, I still get those pains in my chest and I am absolutely terrified of getting it checked out because I have no idea what damage I might have done to myself. I feel you.

That's exactly where I'm at the moment m8, still no idea how bad I am - signs are not good though, some days I'm fine and function after not drinking for a while perfectly normally and then I get days like today where I'm a complete wreck and have to drink. And that just compounds the worry of the question mark over my health even more.

Sometimes fear keeps us from knowledge and if knowledge is power, I suggest having the knowledge. If you have the knowledge, you have the power to change things, things like how you make choices , the food you eat, the time spent with family, all things that could help you live a lot longer.

I'm no expert on coke, but I have done it enough times to know what it does to your body. A heart attack is not something you want to go through. There may just be a product out there that will slowly take those things away. If you knew that there were, wouldn't you want it?

Just read the first few posts m8, but for me it's a bit more complicated than that I fear; I actually felt as if my life depended on that drink today.

I am only 28, but let me tell you that I've lost 3 wonderful women and 2 wonderful homes holding on to the thought that I have to have it.

It might be different for you than it is for me, but I know that if I "have" to have a drink or a line or a hit of anything now, I lose again. this time though there's noone to save me.

No my friend, I "have" to not use.

I do admire that you admit to feeling that. I wouldn't and now I'm single and wishing I would've felt this way long before

It's the exact opposite - your life is depending on you not to drink.

What you've typed makes perfect sense in my mind, but my body was telling me a different story today.

And it will until you get some sort of time under your belt.
There are drugs you can take to ease the pain, ( non narcotic ) and you will start to feel better. Time is on your side (for now) and you can control what your body is going through. It's called the healing process. You've spent how many years beating yourself up? It's going to take some time, but if you truly want to feel better it's something you're going to have to go through.

The wonderful part about coming here is that I don't have to do it alone. Neither do you friend

For me,fear of the unknown is the biggest fear.I have like a phobia for doctors.I freak out at the thought of going. At the end, right before I stopped,I would get REALLY sick after a 2 or 3 day bender. The dr. was called by family members. After a few visits after drinking and using, here reccomended that I get a physical.I did it and found out that I was at an extremely high risk for a heart attatck and had the first stages of Scirrosis. It got my attention, but didn't make me stop.
With the help of AA,The cravings have been lifted and am on a special diet and exercize almost daily.I now look forward to going to the dr to monitor the progress.
Fear of the unknown and procrastination kept me from going.Adress the issue and you will feel better,,in my opinion.Sorry for the long post,,hope this helps.

Going to see a doctor is so much better than fear. The doctor will be able to monitor and assess if and what damage has been done and how to go about resolving things.
