Hi Sarah,
Welcome to Sober Recovery. I'm very glad that you went to a meeting and poured out the vodka. Please keep attending meetings and get a sponsor as soon as you can. We need the support of others in recovery. You can do anything you set your mind to - so tell yourself you'll stay sober today, and tomorrow will be a new day.
Lots of support and encouragement here - so please, stick around.
Rowan

Hi Sarah!
I went to my first AA meeting on Thursday, it is a scary step but I'm glad I took it.
Well done on pouring the vodka down the sink. I remember the heartache I felt when I did that, but I've not once regretted the descision.
Keep on posting, let us know how you are getting on.
Are you going to try a few local meetings? I'm trying another on Sunday.

Hi Sarah,
Welcome to SR!
I posted not too long ago about how I threw away my paraphenalia (my Drug Of Choice was marijuana) and what a Profound sense of loss I felt afterwards.
But it was one of the smartest things I ever did.
Keep posting, and take one day at a time!
Best,
Dave

Welcome, Sarah!
Whether you realize it or not, you've actually pretty much taken the first three AA Steps to Recovery:
Admitted we were powerless over alcohol and our lives had become unmanageable.
(You went to that AA meeting knowing you had a problem and needing help.)
Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
(I believe it was your Higher Power giving you the strength to pour out that vodka.)
Made a decision to turn our lives and our will over to a God of our understanding.
(Whatever your personal beliefs are, you also have the support of AA members and all of us at Sober Recovery.)
You can do it...just don't take one drink, one day at a time, and make as many meetings as you can.

Way to go Sarah... I am glad I found this board and glad you did too. I probably wouldnt have made my first meeting the other day if I hadnt been posting here first. I had been thinking about it but thought that maybe I could just "white knuckle it" this time. Of course my brain started tell me that "maybe you can just drink on holidays" lol I knew I had to have some support when I started having those thoughts.
Hi..glad you are here.
Good for you for pouring it down the drain. I know that must have took alot of courage to do it.
I know I probably couldnt flush my drugs if I had any.
So you did a really big thing there.
Hope to see more of you.

Hi Sarah,
That was a tough thing to pour out that booze! Good for you!
Please don't hesitate to see a doctor if you have withdrawal symptoms. You might wish to read the "Quitting: what to expect" sticky in the alcoholism forum.
Hang in there and keep posting, it helps to have people who understand giving support.
