Welcome! This is a great place for support.

Depression is really difficult to deal with, and I know for me it is the thing I have to be most careful about. I can't have the luxury of letting myself go there because I know it will lead to a downward spiral.

What did you do in the past to help you with sobriety?

Hi Alyce,
Welcome to SR. FYI there are several drugs out there that help alcoholics quit drinking, and for some they are very effective.

If you think you would be interested, and you have the means, I would ask an addictions specialist about them. I learned about these drugs from HBO website, click on the 'Addictions' button on the left, and you're all set.

Welcome to our recovery community. Getting sober is a gift you can give yourself, and it'll change your life in so many ways.
I go to AA, plus I regularly speak to a therapist. That, and coming here, helps.

I have been drinking daily for almost 20 years. I have been to 3 treatment centers and several Detox's. I too kept going back due to the intense cravings and depression. 3 weeks ago I went to see a Doctor that was recommended to me at the last Detox center I was at ( he specializes in addictions). He put me on an Antidepressant AND a medication called Camprol to help with the cravings. That was August 27th, 2007. I haven't had the urge to drink since that day!!!! I am also going to several AA meetings a day and have a temp. sonser ( I've been in and out of AA over the years but never really worked the steps or got a sponser). Please don't give up!! When they say life is so much better they were'nt kidding. My brain was so messed up I couldn't see it getting any better...I was suicidal ( in my thinking). My life has done a 180 degree turn around. I still have Legal and financial problems from my drinking but they don't seem so insurmountable now. Give AA a try and if you can afford it, go see a specialist in addictions...you do not have to do this alone!!!
