OK, guys, how's this for a cruel twist of fate! I woke up around 4 in the morning with itchy eyes, a sore throat and a pounding headache! This cold feels just like a hangover (except no guilt! ) and just in time to celebrate 30 days sober!!! Honestly, ya just gotta laugh at this!

Thanks for helping me make it to this point guys...unless I feel a lot better very soon there is no way I am making my meeting this morning...so you and my husband are the only people who will be hearing me say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! for each of the last 30 days!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 30 DAYS!!!!! At least the cold will make you not want the drink. What a messed up way of celebrating though. You can always go to the meeting in a couple of days and get your well deserved congrat's. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Jomey,

I absolutly hate being sick now that I am sober. I would always 'self medicate' with booze for whatever was wrong with me. Looking back, it was an attempt to feel better, but it never really worked.

Thanks Harley...I've been blessed to make it to 30 days without a lot of cravings...right now, all I really crave is that tea with lemon and honey that Groucho suggested....

Groucho, you are so right. I HATE being sick today! And I used to do the same thing...use booze to make the cold symptoms go away...like that would work past waking up with the cold AND hungover!

Astro...thanks for the reminder about the nyquil...I raided my kids medicine stash for a cold med. that said alcohol free right on the front of the bottle. It doesn't seem to be doing much, but I am going ask my husband to go to the pharmacy on the way home and get some adult strength non-alcohol meds.

Anyone with any suggestions on that?

To stay healthy I drink green tea and take echinacea every day. But in this case you might want to try a health/vitamin store for a natural remedy.

It seems to be "going around"...I fell victim about two weeks ago, and am still hacking away...although not quite as badly. They give Robitussin here in the nursing home. My aide, who knows I'm in recovery, checked the bottle and says it's non-alcoholic...and, I'm trusting her.

Feel better. The chicken soup and tea/honey/lemon always seem to be comforting.

Grate some fresh garlic and put in honey and eat.

congrats on 30 days, im only 11 days so far.

make sure you rest a lot, eat well, stay hydrated, and give it some time. sometimes i rent good movies to distract myself.

the cold =- is also cuz when we quit, our bodies aren't running at their best, so we get susceptible to ickies ... it could also be a purging going on. get ready for every cold remedy inteh book . i love readingthose.
