The Last Hurrah!
Even though I don't really do anything anymore, I'm still always sorry to see the "end of summer". What are your plans for the weekend...and, what are you looking forward to now that the traditional summer season is over?

Hi Jersey Nonny,
Thanks for starting this thread.
I am going to a couple meetings, having breakfast with friends from the fellowship tomorrow, doing some last minute back to school shopping with my daughter, cutting the grass, laundry, cruising around SR.
This is my favourite time of year. The leaves will soon be turning red and gold, the smell of woodsmoke will be in the air, and it will be cool enough at night to wear a sweater.

The end of summer for me means back to work!! I'm raring to go., though. I had an awesome summer hanging with my kids, studying a bit, and being with my wife. We climbed two small mountains, went camping for the first time, and made new friends. Today we went to a place called Cathedral in the Pines for some spiritual refreshment. Relaxing tomorrow, cookout Sunday, and the Franklin Park Zoo on Monday. Then reality on Tuesday. Still - just a great summer!!

My plans are to feed my roses, go to our local zoo (on the list for one of the oldest in US), go to my meetings, just relax.
There might be a birthday party this weekend for my nephew. He's turning 17. They always tell us at the last minute. I hate that.

It means snow will soon be here to put out these fires.
USUALLY - it's time to wash the walls, and prepare to move indoors for seven months. But with all teh smoke - that'll have to wait. It's so strange ... now that I don't have horses any more. I feel kinda lost with my spare time any more.
This weekend I will be putting away summer clothes, getting out the 'between season' stuff... airing out blankets .. that kind of thing.
It's my favorite time of year, too!

If I had any plans, they probably would have been scrubbed...I felt it coming on Thursday, and woke with a sore throat and head cold yesterday...feeling really miserable today. The nurse "coaxed" me out of bed before lunch.
Niece Anna and family went camping, but she picked up some chicken soup, crackers, and cream cheese before they left. Good thing...because the smell of whatever they had for lunch here at the nursing home is making me nautious!
Aside from mourning the end of summer, I'm trying to remember what I used to do on Labor Day weekend. Of course, there was always the beach or pool (if we didn't get rained out)...usually someone had a bbq to go to. Then, yes, there was the dreaded Tuesday workday!
I guess I'm looking forward to the foliage changing color, although I dread the frigid winter months, and will be longing for Spring around the middle of February. Well, we still have some nice warm Indian Summer days to enjoy for the next few months.
Have a good day...I really just want to go back to bed.

Plans ?
Zip, zilch, nada.......I'm, actually kind bored.
BUT, it's sooooo much better than it used to be. Last year at this time, I was waking up, drinking for a couple of hours, passing out, and repeating. I'd "sleep" the whole weekend.
Or, maybe it was the weekend I hit my head on the bottom of the pool......I forget.
Actually, I'll probably do a noon meeting.

Hanging with the kids today (have all six this weekend). Yard work. Tomorrow, to my sis's for birthday celebrations (my daughter,my son and..gulp..ME). Monday, A's taking the kids to an amusement park and I will stay home watching old movies as my birthday present to me!

Great thread,
I am going to a sober cookout and then a meeting on Monday...
Ummm... Last year I went on a three day drunk and ended up being PC'd...The jail cell was horrible.
I am so grateful to be sober, and so grateful for all my friends in Soberrecovery....
Wishing all the best holiday weekend.

End of summer means free air conditioning!!!!
And like alot of people we are going out with a big BBQ for Labor day.
Also means time to stay busy since soon it is stuck in the house time.

Gee Whiz, Kevin! Do you even have any Winter to speak of!?!
The weather here is beautiful...so perfect for all those getting in a last hurrah before starting back to work/school.
It's also good to know there are many NA/AA meetings for those without family and/or friends to do holiday things with. People in recovery are very resourceful and can always find someone clean and sober to share their time with. Good to know we need never feel alone again.
Happy Labor Day Weekend, Y'all!

Great day here, got to leave work early, grilling steak tonight.
My better half's in the pool, she loves the pool.
I am looking forward to winter. I have plenty of wood cut and split so we will stay warm and save oil this winter.
The roses are blooming again.
It's just a great day.

Now, that is something I've always wanted to do...ride on a Mississippi river boat. The closest I ever got was a boat up and down the Hudson River. And, the closest I ever got to a cruise ship was the trip on the English Channel from England to France...now, you go by Chunnel...no thanks!
That's a fact. There are lots of things I never got to do...but, I could if I wanted to!
Oh yea! Staying sober has allowed me more money to do things too.
