TOPIC: Booze. Drugs. DOLLS? Have You Ever Seen The Movie, VALLEY OF THE DOLLS?

Hi my name is Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the Grace of my HP and people like
you here in SR, I havent had a drink
of alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely grateful.

Booze. Drugs. DOLLS? Have you ever
seen the movie VALLEY OF THE DOLLS?

Do you know what "Dolls" stand for?

No, they r not cute looking girls....lol

I had not understood the meaning of
what that word stood for till I saw the
movie, Valley Of The Dolls.

In this case DOLLS stood for pills....
Different kinds of pills...different colored
one for anything and everything....

Its amazing to see how pills booze and
drugs played an important roll in actors
and actresses lives back then....and no
different in todays time.

Still destroying lives....a merry go round
of destruction.

Sure they had sanatariums for those
who thought they were going crazy
because they didnt understand what
pills booze and drugs were doing to
their system......actors and actresses
would go there to dry out....like today
its call rehab or detox.

The Drink or booze was alcohol and still
stands today.....

Drugs....a whole array of names out there
today....like yesteryear.....what all did they
smoke?

The movie Valley of the Dolls shows the
insanity of what pills did to Actresses
back in that era ...no different than
what actress and actors r going thru
today....

Thanks for letting me share.

Hi Sharon,

I had no idea 'dolls' referred to pills. Never read the book or saw the movie. I might, now, though.
I used to take benzos for anxiety while drinking. Then I gave up the booze but went back on benzos - became addicted to them very quickly. One pill suddenly wasn't enough, then two weren't enough, and soon I was carrying them loose in my pockets for 'emergencies'. Came off them cold-turkey several years ago. I should have seen a doctor - would have been easier - but this way was faster. And I needed everything fast! Got through the symptoms, finally, and here I am.
Pills are just as dangerous as booze for me today. I take anti depressants, but they don't work the same way benzos do.
Thanks for letting me share, Sharon.

Valley of the dolls was a cool flic...nice wardrobe and hair. Yeah...addiction has been around a little while. Use to be that the village would lock ya up in the middle of a square and throw rotten fruit at cha...we are getting better at handleing the addict now...but just a little.
Watch Requium for a Dream..that'll scare the bejeezus out of ya!

I saw the movie when it first came out. I remember thinking (about Patty Duke Astin's character) - what a loser! And now I look back at my year of drinking and realize I was a loser myself. Never had problems with pills, just alcohol, but that was bad enough.

Now I'll have to rent the movie and watch it again!
