Anxiety and Energy Drinks
I work at a college. Lots of vendors leave free stuff for students to sample.
We got a couple cases of energy drinks and the workers have been gulping this stuff down. Today, several complained that they couldn't sleep a wink last night.
And, two of them said they had the shakes.
I read the ingredients and wondered why companies would push such poison on people? It's anxiety in a can.
I won't drink it. I have enough anxiety already!
Anyone else tried energy drinks?

yes i have tried a variety of the energy products on the market and the bottom line is, they all make me feel like crap. they literally make me feel like i want to rip my skin open and run right out of my body. in my opinion they are far worse than the ephedra pills that they banned.
Yup, that's why I like them too! I've pretty much quit them, but I do miss that calming effect they give me..

ive tried a couple sips of red bull or something but it tasted like crap so i never tried it again. i know my ex used to drink them all the time because she said it helped her stay up at night to get work done. maybe that is why people drink them.
Uh... Speed in a can? Yes I've made its acquaintance, during my raver era. Same old story from me. (You might pick up a theme if you read enough of my posts.) Chug 3 of them in a row. Work real hard to keep it down. Get all of the effects of speed without having to say you're doing speed!
I drank a few during my cross country move this summer. God they're horrid. But they keep the tired away and your unblinking eyes on the road.

I found that energy drinks did for my anxiety what cigarettes would do for chest colds.
There is no psychoactive substance that I haven't found some way to abuse, even energy drinks. When I first started quitting alcohol I would drink cheap energy drinks until I started hallucinating things.

Yes! Particularly before I could legally buy alcohol. I was a creative little drug-seeking monkey. I'd take just about anything if you told me it would get me high. Alcohol was really my first "love", though, and the other drugs were more of a fling. I was so proud during my raver days that I "only" drank to blackout once a month or so. It was my proof that I wasn't an alcoholic.
Coffee, on the other hand, makes my anxiety sky rocket, so I try to stick to decaf instead (love the taste). When I do indulge in my one guilty pleasure (real coffee and cigarettes) the rest of my day is basically shot.

There's very little caffeine in it, the only thing that looks scary is the amount of B vitamins. Can there be any toxic effects to taking too many B vitamins? I've been taking them for a year now and can easily say I've been far more stable than ever before when I'm on them.
B vitamins are water-soluble, so if you take extra they just make your pee more expensive, that's all. Speaking of pee, it's the B vitamins that turn it that odd neon-yellow shade when you take a multivitamin supplement. I don't know why, but there you have it.
Not toxic so long as you don't take more than the recommended dose, which you shouldn't be doing anyway. B vitamins only do you good up to a certain point. It's kind of like moving furniture... when you have more people/vitamins to help you're more efficient, but forty people cannot all move one couch, the rest (people or vitamins) will just end up sitting around doing nothing.
B vitamins are *relatively* safe to take though. It's vitamin A and E that you really don't want to overdo.
