What have you done lately to treat yourself?

When I saw a therapist here recently for my depression I thought he asked me a really good question. He said, "What have you done recently to spoil yourself?" It seems like we all get so immersed in the stresses of life that we so often forget how important "WE" are and that "WE" need a little extra attention aside from just focusing on staying clean. I don't mean buying something super expensive - but just something that makes us smile, feel good and maybe help to focus on not using.

For me, I went to the grocery store tonight and even though I am on a strict budget, I splurged on a beautiul bouquet of red roses from the floral department. I thought it was funny when I went through the check out stand and the clerk said, "What's the special occassion?" and I said "Just me! I just felt like I deserved something beautiful."

It's funny how I could forget how much a beautiful bouquet brightens my mood and my room Of couse my kitty cat got some treats too because he needs to be spoiled too - hee hee.

I wondered if anyone else here has done anything special for themselves lately. If not - you should! We all deserve it!

I took the entire day Tuesday ... and spent it on myself.

The smoke around butte was getting very very bad, advisories to stay indoors and all that - (forest fires all around) so I found a book that I'd read when I was drinking, and couldn't remember what happened in the middle ... and re read it.

Took a long bath, played with the kittens, puttered around cleaning the house (the entire place is going to have to be washed - it's got a layer of SOOT from the fires throughout the apartment) cooked a teeny little 'meal for one' with 'sides' for the kittens ... prayed, meditated, napped with the kittens, wrote in my journal ... drew a little...

basically did the little old woman living alone with her cats thing.

It was GREAT!
All that was missing was the shopping cart and a load of cans!

I thoroughly recommend setting a day every now and then ...
to pamper and spoil the Self the way you would want an imaginary partner to do.

Hee hee Barb Dwyer I think it's great you have kitties too! How many do you have? My little fuzzy face has definitely been a blessing in my life. Animals are great therapy and unconditional companions.

I have a book I should re-read sober too. I read it a few years ago after two bottles of champagne. OUCH! It would be nice to read it again.

I like to go to the mcdees and just get those $1 hotfudge sundays.
When i go shoping with my GF, it's wierd i know, i get 1 hotwheel.
I look through them just like a little kid

I've been making a collection of panarama photographs from all
over the world. Places i've never been and i can't really afford
to travel all over the planet. So i do the next best thing and
just take a virtaul tour. it's cool, it something new I'm doing.
I enjoy it.

Fresh sheets with lavender scent sprayed on them. Lie in bed with a thick book, dog and cat snuggled in with me. Read until sleepy. It's the best!

For me the joys are:

reading, writing some again, live music, eating out, spending time away from computers and with family and friends.

Bestest one for me for the whole of the last 2 years and 3 months is waking up in the Morning with a clear head and clear vision that really is still wonderful.
