Has al-anon got a big book.I want my wife to look into getting help for herself but here in smallville there are no al=anon meetings.Closest about 60 miles away.Think that all these years with me has messed her up and now she has major problems with sister. She been cutting on herself.

As far as I know, there is no Big Book of Alanon. But, Codependent No More, by Melodie Beatty changed my life. Private counseling was also a huge help.

i read mostly from 2 alanon books:

Courage to Change: One Day at a Time in Al-Anon II (Hardcover)
by Al-Anon Family Group Head Inc (Author)

Paths to Recovery: Al-Anon's Steps, Traditions and Concepts (Hardcover)
by Al-Anon Family Group Head Inc (Author)

Both available on Amazon, and from the author link, you can get a list of alanon books available there.

Too bad about no meetings close. You in AA? Maybe they have some suggestions or support to offer.

Blessings, K

I also recommend Paths To Recovery and Al-Anon's Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions is good too.
Daily reading/topical type books like Courage to Change already mentioned are good. There are two others in that style that I like: Hope For Today, and One Day At A Time.

There is a book called
"How Al-Anon works for Friends & Families of Alcoholics"

this book is an excellent starter book for the beginner in Al-Anon - explains the program, the disease and many other topics that were so foreign to me in the start of my journey of Recovery.

The first part of the book has great info - the second half has stories from actual Al-Anon members.

I think this would be a great book for anyone who is interested in learning more about the program of Al-Anon Family Groups.

I consider Paths to Recovery the "big book" of Al-Anon. Blueprint for Progress helped enormously. The third one I'd recommend is In All Our Affairs: Making Crises Work For You.

Does your wife want help?

I have the above mentioned books, too. And the Big Book. I think those are basically the "Alanon" books but their website probably has a list of what there is available and perhaps your local AA office has some. Our local Borders carries many.

I feel like a broken record, but the "Getting Them Sober" books have really helped me in VERY much, and in a gentle way with examples for making the small changes in actions and thinking that really make the sense to me and help me understand the other literature. JMO see http://www.GettingThemSober.com

Good luck to you both.

p.s. If she hasn't read "Under the Influence" yet, that is another grest book; although not Alanon.

I'm in AA but all our meetings are smoking some are pretty bad she just cant hadle the smoke.I worried bout her think if she had some others to talk to it would help her.I try to stay out of the sister thing I think wife wants me to side with her but I just dont want to judge either way not healthy for me.I picked her up a al-anon book last night but it is like the 24 hour book no real info for her.
