Daniel Baldwin: 'The Addict Is a Horrible Person'

Did anyone see this last night or any of the nights?

I saw it last night, and was curious to what you all
or anyone thought about the way he talked about
his daughter and her choices, or himself, etc.
Interesting to me........

Daniel Baldwin: 'The Addict Is a Horrible Person'
Actor Gives Primetime Rare Access to His Battle With Addiction
By ERIC M. STRAUSS
July 11, 2007

Daniel Baldwin is a celebrity, a brother, a father and a son. He is also a drug addict.

The actor gave "Primetime" unprecedented access as he struggled for his life. He was addicted to smoking cocaine, and with legal, financial and health problems breathing down his neck, he allowed cameras to track his successes and failures at a $50,000-a-month rehabilitation center in Malibu, Calif. (http://www.maliburecovery.com/)

Addiction is a powerful, progressive disease that touches 25 percent of American families, afflicts all classes, races and genders and can bring even the strongest to their knees.

What lessons does this 46-year-old addict share with others who suffer from the same disease? What steps will he take as he tries to help himself and offer advice to others?

Go behind the scenes with Daniel Baldwin Tuesday, July 17, on "Primetime: Family Secrets" at 10 p.m. EDT

Baldwin likes to draw a distinction between himself and the disease.

"There's the person that's the addict, and then there's the person that's who you are," he said. "I prefer to say that I am a beautiful person. But the addict is a horrible person. The addict will screw you over and lie to you and do all kinds of things."

But before he can get better Baldwin will need to examine the wreckage of his past and search for healthy alternatives to using drugs when he leaves the safe confines of rehab.

Along the way he will examine his journey -- from starting as one of six rough-and-tumble children of a school teacher, to the excess and celebrity of being a Hollywood star, to the lows of being arrested in cheap motels and locked up as a common criminal. When failure is the norm, hope and taking his recovery one day at a time are all he has left.

Will this attempt be different for Baldwin? Maybe, because he's ready to ask for help.

"I pray on my knees and I say, 'Please forgive me for what I've done, give me another chance,'" Baldwin said.

Oh..., it's really short, and he doesn't actually say to much.

I just think it's rather 'interesting'. Let me know what you think.

Watching it now.... He calls himself an egomaniac with an inferiority complex. That's the perfect description of my ex.

FYI

Actor Samuel Jackson (pulp fiction, Black snake moan, Losing Isaiah, etc. etc.), was a crack addict for many years until he landed his role in Spike Lee's "Jungle Fever" -playing the role of a crack addict shortly after recovery. He has been sober now for a long time and still married to his wife of 30 years..

It was an interesting show. The only part where I felt he really got in touch with his emotions was when he was talking about the guilt and shame he felt. The rest of the time I felt he was using humor. He has a long way to go and I don't think we have heard the last about his addiction yet. Marle

i watched last nite - i kind of just feel sorry for him - when his lil brother (stephen - who's been sober 13 years - i think they said) said *no one from the family was there for the *family* weekend as there had been 9 rehabs before this and they were tired of this and daniel is a great guy and we all believe that - now he needs to believe that* - i got the feeling that he was just going through rehab cuz he *had to* - jail seemed to shake him up a bit - who knows...

cynthia mcfadden ended by saying he was 9 months sober and expecting a baby with the woman who was in rehab with him cooking - don't know if she was a patient or a cook but she quit her job to move in with him to a sober living facility in malibu - his mom said his family was behind him and hopeful - i guess it just goes to show all we have is hope - every single one of us just lives each day with hope...

godspeed,
s

Was it Daniel that had the recording released earlier this year with him talking so horrible to his daughter or was it Alec?

I think it was Alec.

So Stephen and Daniel are both in recovery - Isn't Alec in some type of treatment for anger issues?

How sad for their families. Another example that the disease is no respecter of person, celebrity status, wealth, or any other factor.

Praying Mother Baldwin has a program of recovery for herself.

Yeah, Rita, I think you hit the nail on the head. We should be concern with sharing the message of recovery with the Baldwin mama. Wonder if anyone has ever told her about Al Anon or Nar Anon? I sure hope so.

I missed the program, so if anyone knows if it will be shown again, please post it here so maybe I'll be able to tune in.

I watched last night. I don't know if I have a problem with celebrities trying to convince me they are normal or what but I didn't feel he was very sincere with things he said. Maybe I was looking for too much but I saw an actor telling me what I wanted to hear.
I usually feel bad for recoverers when they have hardships but just being able to go to a facility that cost $50,000. a month rubs me the wrong way. perhaps I'm jealous I'm not rich.

I wonder about the anonymity of it all -
I cringe everytime I read about another celebrity going to "______Resort Treatment Center" (the news media giving the actual name of the facility and location)
Why would any person who wanted to protect their anonymity go for treatment when above all else - now you have to worry about a "reality camera" stuck up your _ _ _ _ hmm face 24/7?

I know that my AH shares when he really wants to work his program it doesn't matter who is in the meeting, if he needs a meeting he will go, but to a newcomer or a person on the edge not sure about seeking help - I wonder how this would affect them?

Yea, that was Alec...

I've met Daniel a few times, once with his daughter and once with his son.
The one time with his daughter I found his wallet and gave it back to him,
when I opened it, HOLY MONEY, It was so full of $100.00 bills, an No, he
didn't give me one (everyone asks me that) lol, but he was really nice and down
to earth every time.

He seemed to me that he was putting on a show for the
camera during most of that, except for the part where Marle said, I thought
the same thing also. I can kind of understand though, after 17 years of
using and 3 kids later, how "DO" you come to terms with yourself and what
you've done? If you are really real with yourself, I imagine those feelings
might drive one right over the edge...

I found it interesting how he talked about his daughter, on one hand he understood
that she didn't want to have anything to do with him, but then a part of him seemed angry that she wasn't willing to try or see anything but the bad side of him.
Just found it all very interesting, the whole family dynamics.

Do you all think he would have entered rehab if the threat of jail was there?

When he talked about having to go to jail and urinating and deficating in front of a glass door and a camera, I got the impression he thought we should feel bad or sorry for him? I was thinking, and ..... So did Paris Hilton, what's your point?
Your lucky that........ but I'm a lady so I won't even go there....
