12 Steps simplified
A friend sent this to me and I thought it was good. I can always use stuff that is simplified.
Just take out "alcohol" and put in "my addiction to my addicted" and it should work.
The 12 Steps simplified
1. Alcohol will kill me.
2. There's a power that wants me to live.
3. Do I want to live or die? (if you want to die, stop here)
4. Write about how I got to where I am.
5. Tell another person all about me (let God listen).
6. Want to change.
7. Ask a power greater than me to help me change.
8. Write down who I've hurt.
9. Fix what I can without hurting anyone else.
10. Accept that I'm human and will screw up. Fix it immediately.
11. Ask a power greater than me to show me how to live.
12. Keep doing 1 through 11 and pass it on.
Now I know I wasn't going to "DIE" die, but I was dying a slow death before I realized these steps could work in my life. I just apply them to my Al Anon self. Boy, am I grateful for them. Sure beats that slow death thing I was doing.

Hangin, There is only one meeting that I could attend and it is 80 miles away on a Sunday evening at 7:30. One of the negatives in living so far away from bigger cities. So basically I have been working the steps in the fashion that you have listed above. It works for me with the help of the good people at SR. I believe anyone who has the motivation to change can. Thanks for posting this. I am going to print it out so that I can remember that I am making progress even though I don't have meetings available to me. Hugs, Marle
I was dying too, at least my spirit was and my physical body wasn't far behind.
Those 12 steps, a she-devil sponsor with a heart bigger than Texas, a fellowship of people who had been where I was and just a little bit of exhausted will on my part...saved my life.
That's a keeper, Hangin', and a good reminder for me to keep working what works.
Hugs

Great post, Hangin!
I LOVE it!
Yea, I was dying too...and wanted to die...or so I thought.
Until I found a better way.
The 12 Steps; alanon and SR saved my life, and I'm eternally greatful!
For those still struggling, it's there when you're ready; and we're here for you when you are too!
Shalom!

I was dying, for sure. A slow and painful death... as close as I ever want to get to drowning.
Al Anon saved my life. I learned new ways to look at things, new ways to cope. I got some new and healthier friends, too.
Every day, in every way, I am grateful for a program of recovery, and for great co-recoverers like you !
