today is my first day

hey this is a great site.
today is my first day on the site and to recovery...Im a cocaine addict.
Im very proud of myself as its 10pm and I havent called my dealer...tho Im sure I will want to, I want to fight this, I dont like the way Ive been living my life and I want it to change.

Ive tried to quit a few times before...but I find that something simple as going out for dinner and having a glass of wine triggers my craving and then the night will end around 8 or 9 am with me struggling to breathe...not really fun so I wonder why I do it.

Im going to start yoga tomorrow to give some focus and have booked a 10 am class which means I have to sleep and therefore cannot WILL NOT take drugs today

D

Try abstinance of all drugs + alcohol. if you give up the coke any other substance will just trigger. You are an addict. Admit it. Start a program of AA, NA or rehab.
Do it before another yr. of this slips by.

Welcome and congrats on making the decision to change. Avoid alcohol if it's your trigger and give yourself the best chance at sobriety. Alcohol would impair your focus and could end up getting you back into a dangerous situation with coke.

Yoga is a good step. Getting positive stuff going in your life is a big thing.

Also, be prepared when the cravings hit. Abstinence and recovery are 2 different things. Not using drugs is simply abstinence. Recovery is about changing your thinking, behaviors, and facing what lead to your drug use.

Different things work for different people. Find a recovery program that works for you and work it hard like your life depends on it. Because it does.

There is life after drugs. Go for it!

Stick around and you'll find lots of support here. We care!

Hi Dante,

It sounds like you've made a great decision. And, I think starting a yoga class is a really good idea. I think it takes balance in life to maintain sobriety and yoga is a perfect part of that balance.

Welcome, Dante! I am glad you have found SR. Take care of yourself and remember, if you can't do one day at a time, just do five minutes at a time. It will get better!

I'm with hope4life. I always failed in my sobriety efforts because I was focused on being abstinent. Only when I started educating myself and talking with others did I have longer and more frequent stretches of abstaining.

I think I have it this time. But time will tell. 28 days here.
