OT-Good Books

I am wondering if anyone can recommend any good self-help/recovery books- anything relating to healing or codependency or self-esteem or even specific to healing from a loved one's addiction- ANYTHING to change my perspective.

I have the Al-Anon books, COurage to change, Codependent No more and Beyond Codependency as well as the Language of Letting Go.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Women and the Blues, by Jennifer James
The Joy Diet: Ten Steps to a Happier Life by Martha Beck
Finding Your North Star by Martha Beck

I've read them dozens of times, every time I feel like I'm backsliding...and they help every single time to realign my thinking and move me forward.

I liked knowing what was going on with "them", too... in a more clinical way.

Things that gave me insight -

Getting Sober - Gorski & Miller
Under the Influence - Milam & Ketchum
Beyond the Influence - Ketchum

A novel that talks in a different way about Adult Children of Alcoholics -

The Glass Castle

Left me feeling thoughtful, I guess.

I loved "the glass castle"-by jennette walls!! I thought it was so inspiring, That woman really survived against all odds.

This is not a recovery book, but it is useful to improve any interpersonal communication-
"nonviolent communication" by Rosenberg. It is a technique for dealing with conflict you encounter with other people. we had it for both my counseling classes and it really works.

There was another book we had for that class that was useful for anyond trying to make change in thier life..."changing for good" by Prochaska. He studied people who made successful changes in thier life and how they did it. He has 5 stages and also relapse.

Does anyone like Lynda Barry?

You'd be amazed the amount of books available at the public library and you can see their catalog online on the topic
