Thumbs up TOPIC: Do You NEED AA/NA? Or Does AA/NA NEED YOU?

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent had
a drink of Alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely grateful.

Here's something to think about.....

Do you need the program of AA or NA in
ur life?

Or does AA or NA need you?

Ive gone to quite a few meeting since
getting sober in Aug of 1990. Beginning
with the ones in Rehab to aftercare
to countless ones around town.

Each one ive done service work
by bringing my platter of good
things to eat to go along with the
coffee,,,,

With each meeting ive gotten to meet
many members as they have with me
with each asking me to return with
more eats....which has been very productive..

As a result I havent drank
after any of those meetings.

And my resolution for this is to continue
serving the meetings i still go to.

Ive learned that AA is about me doing
what i need to do to take care of me
and not them taking care of me....

Because of my awesome gift of sobriety...
I absolutely need AA more so than AA
needs me or my food....

Thanks for letting me share.

I kinda thought and hoped you'd say that, Sharon;-) Lol

I like to bring cookies and I have a service commitment every day of the week, but more than anything I remember that AA gives me a safe place, a home in sobriety, I need it more than anything.

My AA Club was there long before me, and hopefully it'll be there long after I'm gone, and while I know my service is appreciated there are many who can take my place.
AA keeps me and so many others sober, obviously we all need it greatly.

Yeah..what you give and what you get...exactly! Receiving love is.....priceless...Giving is priceless....But the gift of healing while you are supported is just....

thanks Sharon for the inspired thread!

I am grateful that you brought this up Sharon for this has been one of the things about recovery that has floored me. Not only do I need NA but I need to apply the Program of NA to my life. It is about giving and with that in mind once I am able to not only give unconditionally then I am then able to receive with grace.

I know that for me, I try to do things everyday to help to carry the message of recovery, even if it is just picking up a piece of paper on the ground. There used to be a thing in the meeting room about "Someone Else Died". It goes on to say how we always think that someone else will take the garbage out, empty the ash trays, make the coffee, clean the room but if we wait on someone else to do it than just maybe it won't get done.

I am a firm believer that what goes around comes around. I am a grateful member of NA and the life in which it gives me. One thing that I heard in the rooms was to do something for someone each day and not to tell a soul about doing it either. That is a lesson that is easier said than done but with practice it works.

thanks for sharing with us

With Love and Respect

Vic

I've got my greeter commitment tonight, and I'm looking forward to it more than ever. Of course, they can always find someone else to greet people. Yep, I still need AA!!

I needed what they offered to find my way out of the pit.
Do I need it now? In a different way and not to such a degree as when I first needed answers.
I found out one day... I don't know everything and with finding out such, I have found that what is offered by giving back helps me learn a little more about myself and about life.
Today it isn't so much a need but more a want. When you give, you get.
Service work...giving back... helps me grow and can help others find the joy I now know. That feels good even knowing that I, me, I can make a difference in someome's life just as others have done for me when I was in need.
