OT: I'm doing my 1st Mountain Bike Race
OK this is off topic...but, I'm very excited b/c tomorrow I am racing in my first ever mountain bike race!! It feels so good to be going out and doing something for me!!
I did that for years as a dry drunk. It was a coping mechanism to vent my pent up frustrations and anger.
But, it WAS a lot of fun. And, I got insanely physically fit during the process. My resting heart rate was like....50 ? And my legs, OMG !!!!
(Here's a secret. Guys don't shave their legs cause they heal faster in a crash, or because it makes them go faster. They do it cause their legs are so damm buffed & we like to show off)
I eventually made it as far as the expert class, which back then was basically semi pro. My claim to fame was placing in the top 10. Before expert, I picked up a myriad of 1sts, 2nds and 3rds in sport. This is in Southern California, home of the "sand baggers"
Remember, when you start to hurt, that everyone else is hurting too. Don't say "this hurts", say, "this is what it feels like to go fast". Set your pace, ride your own race. I can't tell you how many start like hell out of the gate and drop in the last 15 minutes. I used to love picking them off as the finish neared.
Have fun, it's a great sport.
Edit: I forgot, one of the co-founders (who actually was forced to quit early on) of Intense Cycles shows up at my Sunday night AA meeting.

MTB - Please let us know how it went!
I also decided to take up road races again and today I ran my first one in 4 years. I think I came close to last, but I finished
You're right - it feels so good to do something fun for us!

I'm super bummed!! I didn't get to race was in the ER instead this morning getting a piece of broken glass out from the bottom of my foot. Steped on it when I was cleaning up after my cat knocked something over. Thanks for the warm support and well wishes...
