having withdrawl sypmtoms after 14 months

hey all. i've been sober now for over 14 months but latley i feel as though i'm having withdrawl symptoms. tremor, sleeplessness, nasuea, headaches, and the like. i did a few google searches but found nothing of use to me. i went to the doctor and was refered to a neurologist but have not gotten in to see the doctor yet. so my question is is it possssible to get the symptoms of withdrawl after being clean for over a year? and if so do you know what it's called so i can find more info. thanks in advance for any info thats provided

Hi 316,

You might be suffering from something called P.A.W.S. ( post acute withdrawl syndrome). You might be able to goggle it. Usually the symptoms of this show up 3-6 months after you stopped drinking, but maybe later than that, in your case. A lot of people who suffer from this will have a relapse, so be on code red alert....your storm should subside soon.

Hi Spishack,

Welcome to SR - I'm glad you found us. And congratulations on your sober time.
I would be surprised to see withdrawal symptoms as acute as what you are describing after 14 months have passed.
I know you are looking for answers while waiting to see the neurologist, and hopefully you get in to see them soon.
Others will be along to welcome you shortly. Please stick around.

Rowan

Hey spiShack316 !

Funny you write this ! Yesterday, I had headaches, dry mouth, muscle fatigue and night sweats. It felt JUST like it used to when I was drinking, but not nearly as severe.

I really think P.A.W.S. is real. I can't explain it any other way. I feel fine this morning, you probably do too I hope.

Edit: Sober for 6 months now

That's really strange. It doesn't sound like PAWS beacuse, as BBQboy mentioned, they usually show up between 3-6 months sober. I'm glad you talked to your doctor about it. I hope it's nothing serious. Let us know if it does indeed have anything to do with getting sober.

Definitely get in to see your neurologist. It could be PAWS, but that usually occurs between 3 months and 9 months.

When we drank excessively, the alcohol burns off the coverings on the nerves endings and some of us end up with some forms of neuropathy. Various nerves can start to send 'erroneous messages.'

The neurologist will be able to tell, if it is nerve damage and how severe it is, etc. whether the nerves will heal or not.

spishack316.........

Yeah...Let us know what the doc says.....

Reminds me of a recent post by an individual having severe headaches..

He thought maybe it was withdrawals after 61 days.....

Went to the doc..and had a severe upper respiratory infection!

Just shows how past alcohol abuse sticks in our minds....

I have an ulcer and when it acts up I recall hangovers....

Blecchhh!!!!!

Keep posting....

Love,

Sherry

Here's a shot in the dark. What's your caffeine intake like ? How about smoking ? Did you reduce oe quit either one of those recently?
