TOPIC: My Monday AA Meetings. Topic. What Did I Bring To Eat? Service Work.
Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.
By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent had
a drink of alcohol since 8-11-90.
For that and you I am truely
grateful.
For the first 6 yrs of my recovery
I attended many many meetings
here in Baton Rouge. I listened
mostly and did service work by
baking for most all the meetings
i went to.
Then 11 yrs ago my family moved
to Houston. During that time I
went to few meeting, but stayed
connected to my AA lifeline here
online. However i missed baking
for my AA buddies here at home.
Since ive returned to Baton Rouge
in Dec. Ive begun going back to
my meetings....slowly but surely.
Last week was my first time to
bring a pretty platter of baked
cookies.....And yes they were
gobbled up quickly.
Well....here is is Monday again,
and since im off from my bakery
store job, i can make my meeting
at noon and bring something good
to eat to go along with their coffee.
So i made it yesterday with fresh
mini cinnamon rolls circling the platter
2 times and in the center is a hand
full of chocolate wafer cookies....
mmmmmmm....
Soon I will be off to my meeting
to get my daily dose of recovery
medicine to help me during the week.
Come back to see how my meeting
went and allow me to share what
the topic was.
Thanks for letting me share.

Id be happy to come join ur home group TinLizzy..
Never been to California before.... Im sure it is an
awesome place to visit. : )
Well....i brought a red glass platter filled with fresh
baked cinnamon rolls and chocolate wafers.
Just about all of it was gone....I left about 5 small
mini bites on the table for who ever wanted them.
The meeting was good as always....I so enjoy
seeing the many familiar faces i got to know when i joined
AA 16 yrs ago.....Its comforting to see them still
hanging in there....
The meeting was about what to do after u take
ur 5th step....
Eventually taking the 6th and 7th....
I first thought that Steps Six and Seven
were about miracles. Like somehow if I
was ready and willing enough, God would
simply remove my liabilities. But it's really
about me becoming willing to do the legwork
it takes to follow His will for me. The wisdom
and guidance is there, but it's up to me to
take the responsibility to put it into practice
and use it. I have to walk the walk.
The 7th Step Prayer
"My creator, I am now willing that you
should have all of me, good and bad.
I pray that you now remove from me
every single defect of character which
stands in the way of my usefulness to
you and my fellows. Grant me strength,
as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen."

After the meeting, one of my lady
friends and I got a bite to eat and
then i showed her where i was living.
She was one whom i paled around
with in early sobriety before i left
for Houston....She has awesome
sobriety...like 25 yrs and has been
a plus in my own recovery.
Its so nice to have someone to
talk recovery with and understand
it.
AMEN.

a bakery...i can get some ideas from
there....
People do order dessert trays as well
as sandwhich trays or breakfast trays...
Hmmm... decisions decisions.
Croissant rolls with deli ham and cheese?
I do want to keep the cost down too since
im on my own now....
So ill be looking for something that i can
make alot of and cost less to make it....

Sharon, you are the sweetest person ever. This is just a suggestion, it might not be a bad idea to NOT bring goodies EVERY meeting. I know that it feels really good right now to make everone happy, and it is a good thing in moderation. I hate to think that it will eventually lead to negative feelings for you. If you should get everyone in the habit of getting goodies from you everytime, that might lead to unnecessary stress for you to think of the next thing to bring....and...if you should miss one time, will you feel resentment when everyone is disappointed? Possibly one meeting a month for you to bring goodies, something to look forward to. Less stress=better. Please don't get me wrong...I really think you ARE the sweetest person...I don't want you to get hurt.

You are absolutely right...I do think next Monday is
a birthday meeting, so i will let others supply the
food for that one.....
That will give me a break and a plus i can go to
another meeting i havent been to in a good while.
Thanks Cathy for ur wonderful caring suggestions
and concern.
All in moderation.

One other suggestion. If you have a dollar store in your area spend a few bucks on inexpensive cookies. Homebaked goodies are great when we have the time, but store bought stuff is appreciated just as much.
