Thumbs up Starting IOP

I'm starting IOP (Intensive Outpatient) on Wednesday!

I'm also on the waiting list for inpatient but the list is really long. I don't know if I'm going in there or not.

I am doing what I feel is right for me.

I don't know.

Congratulations on your decision to go to outpatient. I'm an IOP grad lol. It was good for me... I hope your program is as helpful as mine was.

Hi Hope,

I am glad that you are doing what you need to do to take care of yourself. I 'm sure you're nervous, but I hope that it will be useful and interesting.

I hate not knowing how to live life. Seriously. I am so clueless. The stuff that I should know by now is the stuff I have to learn. Stuff that I should know by the time I'm in my 20s and yet it eludes me and I look like an idiot most of the time.

I've been feeling lonely today.

Today wasn't one of my best days. I've been irritable all day. I talked to someone about it earlier and she says that is part of PAWS.

I have just wanted to scream and get it all out.

Let me tell you something Hope..I am 31 and I never even had to pay a bill until 4 years ago when my gramps died. He was the money maker. Now I have to. Everthing I own was given to me. My grams still cooks for me and does my laundry and even puts it away. As much as I hate her to. She gets mad when I tell her to stop. Never a bank account ..never once moved out on my own. Never had to take any kind of responsibility. I am learning the hard way right now. So you are not alone.

Hope/Chi -

I'm right there with you. I just found out that I am on a waiting list (not more than a week long) for an outpatient program here in San Diego. I'm not a bit scared, even looking forward to it. My program is 3 nights per week and will require me to go to 3 AA meetings per week. BUT, I don't have to take a month or more off of work, can still take care of my family, and hopefully will gain insight to my alcohol problem and tools to deal with stressors/triggers.

Let's all keep in touch with progress/problems/questions!!

I don't feel so alone anymore.
You are all so awesome.

That is cool that we are starting IOP about the same time. Let's definitely keep in touch with our progress. We're the IOP gang, lol!

Today is the day! I have to leave in a few hours.
I'm excited/nervous.
I will be there for 3 hours.

I will take away as much from this as I can.

Breathe.

You said it yourself t the end of your post "Sobriety is a journey, not a destination." Just for today is a slogan that helped put things in perspective when I was new in sobriety. Just for today you do what you can do and you do it to the best of your ability...from there on God is going to take the wheel...That is a guarantee..if you allow Him to

Come on back and keep us posted ok ...You will be in my thouguths

Good luck tonight Hope4life . I hope it isn't as scary as you think... I think you'll find out it's really not. Once you meet the other people and find your way around the schedule (for lack of a better description) you'll feel much more at ease and indeed ready to take in as much a possible. Let us know how it went.

Hey Hope -

I had my first outpatient on Thursday last week. I didn't have a choice but to share, and it went very well. I've been to many AA meetings which I think helped tremendously! I think it'll be a great program.

I'm glad you too had a good experience. Has Chi checked in with her experience?
