Prometa

Well I just got off the phone with an outpatient program that offers Prometa the man seemed real nice until he told me the cost of this treatment. To get treated for crack addiction with Prometa it cost $15000. my stomach literally sunked. God even if I had the money I would not spend it on that with out the knowledge if he would stick with it or not. The man did give me the name of the company that owns prometa and a woman who works there and that they may offer a sliding scale but he would have to go through Prometa to get there.

well just wanted to share that little bit of info

Cindi, maybe I dont know but hearing $15000. really discouraged me.

Laketime, I forgot who originally posted about it but from what I understand it is a new treatment for people who are on crystal meth, cocaine and crack.

anvil, I agree with you and I said the same to him as well. My mom was a crack addict and she didnt use any programs or NA, AA or any type of meetings to get her to stop using crack. She kept away from people, places and things and focused on herself.

My brother quit heroin without methadone as well, he was detoxed in a safety facility but after that was on his own and he's doing great. He had to cahnge his whole routine though including the good things in his life because everything took him back there

I also wonder if there is a real need for help detoxing from crack. From what I understand of the speedier drugs, there isn't such a bad withdrawal period (it's hours instead of days). I could be wrong, though.

If it works for folks, though, then more power to them! I agree that the cost is absolutely outrageous. I don't know of many people using crack who could come up with that kind of cash.

hi junky

i used a lot of speed and crack and the come down is horrible. at least with my experience. so anyhow it took me a few months. and plus now i feel i need more rest. but i think that is due to the many nights i stayed up for lots of years. so my body is still healing. but i am better.

I ahve to agree. I know physically the pull is stronger for up to 96 hours. My BIL always had to be detoxed from the alcohol he used to come down off the crack though. It appears this is common for multiple addictions.
The cost thing I think their hoping for codie spouses and parents to 2 nd morgage their house, its not gonna be me.

You guys are all great. The discussion here sometimes seems like one of the only places where i can go to find sane people who understand me. It's like a constant Nar-Anon meeting!

I have heard on other boards you can get help paying for this.
Like some of the others I stopped meth on my own.
But I also know some people die before they stop.
So whatever works, if this gets someone off meth or crack
before they kill themselves, then so be it....
If this would have saved some of the lives I've seen lost
recently then I'm all for it...
And btw, I have heard good things about it from some
X users in recovery..
