a serious question
a serious question
ok, i'm reading greets post about her retreat.
how many yrs would it take for us to save enough money, to have a sr gathering, somewhere on one of these coast so that we can all actually meet each other? somewhere that i won't have to fly to get there, i'll drive the distants as long as a car or bus will take me there, i kind of don't like flying, too scared. could it be done and what would it take?
i'm no where rich, right now, i live from check to check. i'm ok but, i'd have to save the money for a trip but i know that in aa, they have them sometime.
just a thought, l really do love you all, and wish that we could somehow get together, i bet it would be so much fun, for me anyway. AND I'M TOTALLY SERIOUS, THIS TIME.
ARE THERE ANY PLANNERS IN THE HOUSE?

Ya know, we should talk to rozied. She is going on a retreat with friends from another forum (not addiction related). It's some place in Maryland, I think and they rent out the retreat to different groups for short periods.
She showed me the pictures of the place and it looks so peaceful. Two women to a room, includes food, etc.
I'm sure there are other places like it across the country too. I'll ask her about it. But it's an idea :-)

I think it is a wonderful idea. You guys don't hear from me much and I try to support when I can, but you don't know how helpful all of you have been to my recovery. I would love to meet as many of you face to face as I can and just give you a big HUG!!! I think it would be so great to actually spend a weekend together and get to see the faces of people we call our family here on SR. I would be willing to come if at all possible. The support here has saved me a lot of pain in my life.
Thanks for the great idea!!

Good morning gals!!
Oh I think that would be a wonderful idea, although I'm in Canada on the West Coast, kinda far from alot of you.... We'd have to look at a map and see a central location.. do some kinda poll and find out where everyone is.. and go from there....
I'd love to meet you all, you have been such a godsend!!
lotsa love,
Liz

yes yall, a central location, maybe allowing enough time for those interested to find money and transportation. maybe not tomorrow but somewhere in the near future. even if we had to rent our own hotel spaces and just have a meeting place and go from there. good to hear that its not a terriable idea.
I think a structured retreat setting would be ideal.
A hotel room reminds me of booze parties when I was young. No offense. I met Kenny Rogers at a hotel party in Wildwood, NJ, when I was very young and he was still working with the First Edition and only semi-famous. That's what I think about hotel parties. Sorry!
But a real retreat sounds great...waiting to hear back from Rozied.
Hugs, SM

I like the idea. If we pick some place that is not a resort haven it would be least expensive.. and if there were a place where those who wanted to could camp, it would be perfect.
Here in my state we have lots of State Parks and State forest areas.. and they are beautiful.. and there are motels nearby for those who are not into camping.
The trick would be to have the meeting area lined up near where there are places to stay if there isn't a retreat with places to stay. If we got this thing off the ground we could also car pool (unless we get Dolly to do the Hummer or we get the Codie Bus on the road!)

Teke, it's a wonderful idea! I love to Google, so I'll join the idea bandwagon! The idea of someplace with camping or cabins/hotel is neat. I remember a place like that when I was in college; one of the programming boards I was on did a weekend. it was lots of fun, except I ended up having appendicitis and emergency surgery (actually that place isn't too far from Camp Codie, lol)
i'm not good at planning at all, i don't know anything about stuff like this, never planned anything so if there is someone here willing to do the research or tell me how i can help that would be good. i'm like a soccer mom, all i can possible do is come up with an idea or two, maybe. help
don't know, i havent had time to check anything out, don't really know where to start, i was hoping that the planners in the house would speak up, too. i don't know a thing about travels, only left atl, 2 times and that was only a few hrs away. glad you brought it back up. i would love to met some of you guys. just to see the people who helped to save my sanity. thanks
Naranon has conventions. That would be a perfect meeting place I think. I have attended one. It was two days in a hotel. Plenty of time for socializing, as well as wonderful speakers, and workshops. Here is the link for what is going on so far this year. These are usually annual events. So all the postings will occur next year again. The one I attended was the NY convention in the fall.

Natchez Mississippi is close to me( bonus...LOL) and has some REALLY fun things to do. Antebellum homes out the wazoo and also state parks and a casino. My friend and I love to visit the antebellum homes and see how people lived way back when. You can take carrige rides and they have the Old south winnery where you can go see how wine is made and taste. It all sits on the Mississippi river.
Just a thought. Google it.

Good idea, Jeepgirl!
The next world NarAnon conference is:
August 30 - September 2, 2007
Nar-Anon World Convention
“Embracing the Fellowship”
In San Antonio, TX....not quite in the middle of the country, but I know we have a bunch a texas folks here :-) Also that's only 5 months to save up the $$$.
Actually, everyone's ideas are good...I just need some time to save up for it. And Greet's idea of camping/cabins would be a lot less expensive (I think)
Mavis, I always hated/avoided flying until my son decided to go to college 1000 miles away. Now I don't even get nervous anymore....hardly :-) I'm sure we could help you out with that part of it. Not that I'm a world traveler or anything, never left the US, but know my way around at least 4 major airports now. Spent a lifetime one day in Dallas International. :-)
Still waiting to hear back from Rozied about that retreat in Maryland place.
How's everyone's searches going?
