What a great site.

Hello everyone.

I found out recently that my Dad (recovering alcholic among other things!) has actually been diagnosed with narsisstic personality disorder, which wasn't really all that surprising. When I googled narsisstic I found this site and some very interesting and valuable reading.

My Dad is walking time bomb with all his medical problems and while I do have empathy for him, it's difficult. It's so difficult to feel empathy for someone who obviously has no regard or respect for their own life or the people around them.

ah well...

I'm so glad to have found this site.

Welcome to our little piece of the internet Rice.

You say your father is recovering - are you recovering? (not from alcohol, but from living with your father)

Feel free to ask, vent, offer, or just lurk. Everyone's welcome here. Take what you need, leave the rest.

Hey there rice, glad you found us. I also had no feelings for my biological parents. They passed away recently and I finally felt sorry for all that they missed out in life.

Welcome again

Mike

sounds like u have grace and detachment about the situation, so keep it going!

Hi ricepudding,

welcome. My parents were/are both alcoholics and I "diagnosed" my mother as having NPD years ago. It was just this weekend that I realized it fits my Dad to a T as well. This morning I'm looking in the mirror going, "and so....how about you?" ::sigh:: Good luck and please keep us posted of anything you come across that is helpful with the npd.
