Red face Newbie - dont know if im an alco!

Hi Peoples!

I dont know where to start!

I have been thinking of joining a forum such as this for a while now... but then i thought "if i did, wat would i say"

So i guess ill get to the basics.

Im a solo parent to a toddler and i wonder if i am classed as an alcoholic.
I tend to find myself drinking to the point of smashed once a week, and perhaps tispy one other night of the week.
So really thats 2 nights a week of some form of intake other then a few glasses over dinner.

If i get smashed, it doesn't interfere with me raising my son, i still wake up feeling fine! perhaps thats becoz I'm used to alcohol and i don't get hang overs any more. I don't drive or anything for a whole 48hrs after my last drink either, and with where i live, i really don't even need to drive to go get things from places such as the supermarket.

Before havin my son i worked hard and drank sh*t loads! when i was preg i gave up smoking cigarettes and drinking, i didnt have an issue doing so, but then once my kid was about 7 mths old, i started both again!

I dont know, i hope some of you can help me work out my issue!
I get bored and am quiet lonely out here in the bush atm... i dont know if i am considered an Alcoholic or not. I mean, there is a diff between drinking a bit too much and alcoholism isnt there??

Anyone have some words of wisdom for me?? Bring it on!!

Hi MissFire,

Welcome to the forum!!!

You have come to the right place to find the answers to your questions. I am a newbie too and there are heaps of us here in the same boat. There are lots of wonderful, kind, caring and friendly supportive people on this forum.

From what I have learned so far, your being here signals that you are worried already about your drinking. If you decide to stop, you are not alone.

Have a look at this site:

http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org....a_for_you_.cfm

No one can tell you if you are happy, if your life would be better without drinking, whether you are managing your life etc except you.

I am sure you will get lots of advice by the others here so I will leave you in their expert hands.

Welcome to SR!

Please read this link for information

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...influence.html

Only you can decide if drinking is a problem.
I noticed you are drinking "a few with dinner"
as well as getting smashed.
Sounds like you are drinking daily to me.
If you keep a certain level of alcohol going
you do not get hangovers.

Glad you are here..blessings to you and your son.

Hello and welcome to SR.

This disease of alcoholism is progressive. I am nothing like I was when I first started drinking. I have had several years of sobriety at one time. The next time I picked up, my life became more unmanageable.

Keep posting, we are glad you are here.
