A Wet Brain
Through all my using days, whether is was from alcohol or drugs, the consequence that I feared the most was a wet brain. Today I still fear this, and I continue to fight the addiction.
I learned that a wet brain is destroyed brain cells , caused by the abuse of alcohol and drugs. It is much different than having a mental disorder caused by aging, such as dementia.
I have known family members, friends, that nearly died from their abuse of their drug of choice, to end up in this sad way. When they were sober, their actions were totally abnormal, as if they were active with their addiction. A close relative of mine died this way.
I hope this thread does not come across to anyone as a downer, by all means I am for recovery!
I would like to hear more on this topic, the death of my loved one has really caused me a lot of pain.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
You posted about a truth of what can and does happen to some.
Was a sad sight to see a 35 year old in the nurseing home because of such.
Yes, an added risk of using and an added reason to seek recovery.

This is a very sad way to have to die and I would suggest saving yourself the grief and moving on. It's not pretty, it's sad, it's very disturbing to some and the only thing you really need to know it's another instance of continued circumstance of alcohol dependency/abuse. I'm sorry for your loss.

Yes, it is a distinct possibility for one that continues to use alcohol and/or drugs.
When I got sober, I was on the H & I committee for the San Fernando Valley and we used to take 2 meetings a week into the VA Hospital in Northridge. They had a WHOLE WING of alkie/addicts, and one ward, sad to say, was the "Wet Brain Ward" (yep, that is what they called it back in the early 80's) and it was so sad. It certainly was a wake up call for this alkie and helped to keep me sober.
Again I am so sorry for your loss. Hopefully you will find some 'healing' here at SR and will be able to remember the 'happy times'.
Love and hugs,
