Allen Carr book?
Allen Carr's Easy Way to Control Alcohol (Paperback)
by Allen Carr
Has anyone read this book? Would it be stupid of me to think it may help? I know, I have to stop, I see what drinking is doing to my life. Trying to find help without traditional AA, as My father left me with a bad taste for AA, I am sure and know it helps alot of people. Just wondering if I have any chance at all to stay sober without AA? Any sugestionbs would be greatly appreciated. is it possible that this sight alone could help me? People seem so nice, so helpful here.

welcome, kathy -
i'm sure others with more experience will be along to say hello soon. i'm the mom of a recovering alcoholic and cocaine addict. my daughter is 120 days clean and sober. she does do aa, but she also gets some private counseling. she went through rehab, and is now in a sober living house.
any thoughts on doing a rehab program - inpatient or out?
regardless, i wish you great success and peace in your recovery. k

Here is a list of recovery programs
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-programs.html
You may want to try all methods to find
one that works for you.
No... I did not use Carrs book
or on line site for my recovery.
Take care

I just finished the book.
Carr tries to "logic" you out of addiction and makes some good points in the process: Alcohol is poison; alcohol controlls you, not the other way around; alcohol causes anxiety and depression and does not relieve it; the problems that you had when you picked up the drink will be there and probablly worse when you sober up; it shatters your courage and confidence; you do not need alcohol to enjoy a party or social gathering; alcohol robs you of freedom and happiness; alcohol removes your inhibitions, enabling you to make a fool of yourself; etc.
He totally discounts the willpower method of quitting. He states that the willpower method just enforces that you will never be "cured", that the longing for alcohol will continue for the rest of your life.
I found that there is a lot of "me" in the book and read it carefully. I plan to re-read it, but do not feel that logic alone will "cure" (his word, not mine) my addiction.
All in all, it was well worth the $10, but I do not believe, for me at least, there is an "Easyway".
Hope this helps -
