Son and I got The Call last night...ex thought not to 'make it' through the night
It was a long night.
We got The Call from son's cousin late last night that we should get to the hospital immediately. The nurses didn't expect him to last the night. (He did, however.)
I made record time getting to ex's city, and I stayed at the hospital with son for almost four hours. Once it became evident that ex had pulled through what was clearly a rough time, I left, since son insisted he wanted to spend the night with his cousins in that city. (He wanted to be closer to the hospital, also, just in case they got another Call.) I'm sure I'll hear from him later today. I'm prepared for anything.
Actually, the most merciful thing for ex (and everyone else in his family) would be for him to just stop breathing in his sleep.
During the 30 minutes that his brain was without oxygen after his cardiac arrest three days ago, his brain suffered irreversible brain damage. If he were to regain consciousness today, the neurologist said he would be a vegetable.
He may not regain conciousness before he passes away, and while that might be the most merciful thing, I'm not sure son will see it that way.

Even though it is a medical place, I am thankful that your son and you can see his your husband clean, warm, being taken care of and kept comfortable. I'm glad that neither of you are having old worries. I hope you have some sense of peace knowing he is in the best place. My thoughts are with you. This time may be for you and not against you. He is so close to having his glorified body and mind. I will pray on his behalf and for you.

Ex's condition is the same today.
Son seems to be more content being near him, even though he is still unresponsive. He's approaching 96 hours since admission, and the longer he remains unresponsive, the worse his prognosis becomes.
Right now, I am just hoping for him to be at peace. If he cannot recover with any decent quality of life, then I just hope that the Goddess takes him.
