Just To Say Hello

Well, I'm the new guy here having just emerged from detox (my first) just yesterday.

Generally speaking, I feel quite uneasy and have little to no support from family. I was taking a lot of valium and drinking heavily. The valium (90 mg/ day) was for two years and the drinking???? I can't remember not drinking.

I went into the unit Monday afternoon and left Friday morning. It's Saturday and I feel really nervous. I suppose this will pass.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Given I've just come from medical detox, has anyone else done the same and felt anxiety, muscle ache, etc., and how long does this last?

Welcome Mr.X

There is lots of support here and you never need to feel like you're alone.

Yes. See my post in "What to Expect" for more examples. De-tox should have gotten you through the major withdrawls, but I'm finding minor ones last for an extended period.

Look up sub-acute withdrawl and PAWS on the internet. You're going to experience these.

I'm pushing six weeks now. I do have periods of serenity. The anxiety is there, but not the shaking/heart racing/fear of everything anxiety. Also, depression and just a general "funk". These, of course, fluctuate wildly.

Hang in there. It gets better, but does take time and work.

Good Luck and God Bless

H
