Mysterious ways!

Something encouraging happened last night and I felt like sharing it. The A Fiance came home with a new 1-liter bottle of 151 and started in on his usual routine. While pouring his second drink, I started thinking most forcefully how much I hate the rum and how much I hate that he drinks like this. All the sudden, *CRASH*, he drops the bottle on the floor, shattering it into a zillion pieces! He did manage to pour that second drink, but there was nothing else for him to drink after that! He said, while looking at the mess, "I guess that's a sign from God." He does work in mysterious ways, after all.

He asked me if I'd go to the liquor store to get him more rum, and I said "No, can't do that, sorry." (Woulda been better to say "No, *won't* do that, not sorry" but hey progress not perfection, right?)

He spent the night in slight grumpiness but I can handle a grump a LOT easier than a drunk.

Sign from God!! Interesting how he knew that? Good for you whether it was can't now you can say won't anytime. Awesome!

Thanks Irish! Frankly I was surprised he'd asked at all because I've refused and stated why a few times before.

It takes people even us time to realize that we are going to be meaning what we say. It's good. He knows you mean it.

Yep progress not perfection.....

You did very well and hopefully he will get it and not need a much bigger sign from God.

Thank you for sharing. I too hope he remembers his sign from GOD.

My AH would have seen it as a sign, too - to not have more than 2 drinks THAT night. I think he might be one of the ones who literally has to be struck with the lightening bolt. Who knows?

Good work on not going out to buy it.

I'm willing to bet he shows up tonight or tomorrow with yet another bottle and start his binging all over again. Since it's the weekend, maybe he'll bring home two.

I did some math based on the extra potency of the 151. He routinely has 14 to 21 drinks a night, and he's drank this way for at least a few years. I can't help but wonder how far off cirrhosis is.
