It is not hopeless. Read the posts, you will find common ground.

First of all let me say Welcome To SR! You will find some great people to share with here!.

Hopeless, hopefully in the near future you will change your handle. It is NOT HOPELESS.

Many of us who suffer from chronic depression and bi-polar used drugs (street) and alcohol for years to self medicate.

I know for me it was only after I got sober and clean, continued to work with my therapist, that we finally found a medication that is working for me today. This didn't magically happen overnight, but it has happened. I used AA and the fellowship of AA where I found lots of other folks just like me that could relate to what was going on with me on any given day. I continued with my private therapy and took everything just one day at a time.

You too can do this.

Check out the different forums, read the "stickys" at the tops of the forums, and by all means please keep posting and let us know how you are doing, we do care!!

Love and hugs,

I think you might find improvements in your moods and anxiety now that you have stopped using drugs. It could be that your meds will work better without interference from other substances. I, too needed to get depression under control using anti depressants before I could stop drinking.

You are not alone and you'll find lots of support here.

Welcome!!! These people are so supportive and what I, today, find very HOPEFUL is the attitude of, if you fall...get up and keep trying! That's new for me I have tried so many times to stop drinking and when I failed it seemed harder to try again cuzz I would beat myself up so bad. My attitude is shifting now thanks to SR, I find myself falling yes, but actually looking forward to starting again and BELIEVING I can do it. Julie

What a hard struggle you've had hopeless. But how hopeful it is that you've come into SR, it's so very helpful here. People from all sides of the coin sharing their thoughts, and wishing you well.
I guess any day clean has to be a great win for you, well done.
Please believe you're worth a million clean days.

That's great! Hello hopeful1974! Good that you're managing to feel positive. It must be so hard at times. You must, as you say, feel you've missed out in the past, but remember, tomorrow is the 1st day of the rest of your life, and you deserve a good one.
I find SR such a positive place. Sometimes shocking and so sad, but positive none the less. I always seem to come away feeling a touch better.
Keep posting, no matter what. We are all there for you.

Hi and welcome!

I have experienced bi-polar through my son and my sister as well as many people in the rooms of AA. There is plenty of hope! Ridding your body of drugs (non-prescribed) will allow you and your doctor to find the meds that will work to stabilize you and then life will get better. It can be done.

Congratulations on this huge first step. Stay the course and don't give up!

Hugs,
Kellye
