Ode To An Alcoholic
Ode To An Alcoholic
Ode to Alcoholic
I looked out you and saw something
you looked at me and knew something
a lost soul having found someone
a soul having someone to use
my world was you and you my world
you were your world and I was yours to whirl
if only I said, in spite of you said
a look an image the desire to be normal
a look, a scent the desire to drink-
reaching new heights achievement together
sinking to new lows destroying altogether
if I medicate then its all great
if I just appreciate it will be great
who knew you like I did?
the glass
who understood u like I did?
the barkeep
who satisfied you like did?
the bottle
She won- she’s stronger, and prettier
she always wins, you always forgive her
I told her told to leave she knew shed be back
I told she was not welcome, she had keys
You whispered to her sweet nothings
I shouted obscenities
You told her she was all that you needed
I told her she need not come round
She just never left
So I pronounce u betrothed
Man and wife, man and drink
Husband and wife, wife and drink
To have and to hold
Until death do you part
To this ceremony I was a participant
now I have become a witness,
and tomorrow I will be an attendant
Next week I shall be an R.S.V.P.
Next month I will be Anonymous
Next year I will be someone who never knew
the power the strength that I gave you...
You will never more define me
Take from me or hurt me
I know who I am and for this

An Ode to an Alcoholic...
Thanks embraced- I actually posted this as Ode to An Addict- as my plight is 9 years with a crack addict.
I am also the adult child of an alcoholic, my father with whom I no longer have a relationship at all.
The struggle with my partner ends today as I am packing up and walking away, so today is my Independence Day!
Look for my postings in freinds and family of substances abusers.
I like this place- it feels like "home"

Happy Independence Day to you Lady.
Sometimes I did not know which was harder the fighting or the giving up. Both are really painful but in giving up I can find peace.... there is no peace in the fight.
