Nervous and excited....first weekend sober

Hello! This is my first weekend sober, I am scared and don't really know what to do. Living a life where everyone you know (including my husband) is a partier kind of leaves the rest of us in a not-so-much-fun-to-be-around stage. Learning that I need to find other things to do is strange, I don't know what to do. But I am thankful to start things fresh and hope this site will help me out in recovery.

Crystal

Hi Crystal,

Welcome!

What worked for me was planning. I had to make specific plans for the times I would be drinking. I had to be doing something else, completely different. There is lots of support and information here, so I hope you keep posting.

it was hard at first for me too. i only started at end of summer and everyone we knew drank. but really it wasn't too hard once i started not drinking socially. the worry was worse than the reality. just read all you can about alcoholism. have someone's number handy in case you really are ready to plunge back in a drink. and plan ahead--what will you drink? i've since been to wine-tasting (don't ask--had to go) and several big parties. i get tonic and cranberry with lime, or a virgin mojito. at home i drink diet lemonade (has to be diet because i drink massive quantities). it really helps. one of my triggers was cooking dinner. always had glass of wine handy...well, now it's limeade or lemonade.

you can do it! there's never a better time than now.

keep on keeping on!
