"Is this Heaven?'
"Is this Heaven?'
Sorry to quote from a movie, but I am sooo excited to have found this site!
Just to qualify myself, I am a 54 year old woman married 35 years to the most wonderful man with 2 fantastic sons and 5, count them FIVE, awesome grandchildren. I am 14 months, 19 days clean after a 24 year battle with pain killers.
To the ones who are new to recovery who have posted recently, it gets better, then it gets bad, then it gets better, then it gets bad, etc. Even today, I fight tooth and nail every single day not to listen to my disease. Twelve step programs are a God send (or a Higher Power send) because we can not do this thing by ourselves.
I have been lurking for about a week and decided to join after having noticed some kind, compassionate people here and I look forward to being "a part of" and learning from everyone.
A very grateful "recovering addict",
Karen

Welcome! My deal was booze (mostly Miller Lite by the truckload), but my father was an alcoholic and then addicted to pain killers for many years. I saw firsthand how destructive and powerful they can be. I hope you stick around!

i am about 6 weeks sober from painkillers...i took them daily for months and when i became afraid i may have a problem...i found sr...and i honestly believe it has saved me many years of struggles and pain...because i was rapidly becoming more and more addicted and dependant...and this site helped me realise my problem and to be honest scared me...but at the same time the support of my friends here gave me the courage to quit...and the strength to stay sober through the chaos that is my life...(three kids+one husband= chaos)...we are always glad to welcome newcomers...and to offer our support in any way we can...so....welcome!
