9 days and am struggling

Hello,

I'm so glad I found this wonderful site. It's only been 9 days that I haven't had anything to drink and the feeling of anxiety and depression has hit me so hard today. I was doing ok until today. I even stopped to buy a bottle of wine but I took my ativan instead for the anxiety and left the bottle in the car. What a horrible way to live. I really hope one day it will get better. Thank you for listening.

Theresa

Hi Theresa,

Early sobriety is full of emotional swings and adjustments. I am glad you made the choice to not drink today. Each time you get through one of these cravings, you'll get stronger.

you got through today...if you can get through these first weeks you can do anything...and it is so worth it...i have more than a month...(one month one week today) and it is so much better now...i still have problems sleeping and my moods are all over the map but i am grateful to have gotten through the worst of it, now i can rebuild my life....you are doing great...this was a major test today and you certainly passed!!!! that shows me what a truly strong person you are an if you can make it with the bottle sitting next to you that is a powerful feeling....way to go!!!!!!!!

Congrats on day 9!! I know how hard those first few days are. Keep posting...it's incredibly therapeutic. We're all pulling for you. PM me if you need some support. Read my tag line beneath my signature. Whenever I am having a hard time, I keep that in mind.

good choice to leave the bottle in the car. I also believe that it's good to post here often to get all the stuff out of my head. Really early recovery is a tough place to be but we all have to go right through it to get to the other side. Just keep thinking of all the reasons you want to be sober (and all the reasons you don't want to be drunk).
