Side Effects Of Recovery...
Side Effects Of Recovery...
I went for a follow up Doctors appointment today. I lost over 10 Lbs in the last month and my blood pressure is now 120/70. So in the last two months I have last over 21 Lbs and massively lowered my blood pressure! Allot of this can be attributed to stopping drinking mass quantities of beer, and getting more physically active all related to my sobriety and recovery...
Hang loose, Doc.
Hang loose, Doc.
Congratulations, doc -
you know, the last time I 'came back' ... I lost 20 lbs.
this time -
not.
one.
pound.
I think this time, though, the circumstances are signifigantly different.
I'm 5 years older, simultaneously changed jobs from the active one of bartending to one of Night Audit ... which is only marginally more active than a potted plant.
But -
weight is a trigger for me, and it's really causing me problems this time. I'm about 30 lbs over, which always would trigger me to drink more before. Now, with no drink ... it's an obsession thing.
The only positive at this time - I haven't GAINED any weight, either.
I just FEEL like I have.
I know we're not supposed to let ourselves focus on such things, we're just supposed to not drink for x amount of days, but when you've got the obsessive mind of an alcoholic/addict ....
The only thing left is to yammer up the ol' HP.
Which I'm doing hourly.
And driving my sponsor crazy.
Thanks for the vent ....

That's great, BuDoc! When I quit, I lost nearly 30 Lbs & my bp normalized really fast. It went from 200/100, down to 115/70 in two weeks. It went back up when I returned to work after 60 days sober. Then, when I quit smoking and drinking coffee, my bp went WAY down.
I sleep a whole lot better now!!

Thanks for sharing the positive news! One of my favorite side-effects has been the clear thinking. I didn't realize how muddled my brain had become until I stopped poisoning it.
The blessings just keep coming!

That is awesome! Keep up the great work Bu!
Barb, hang in there. I thought when I got sober I would lose weight from not ingesting all the alcohol calories but just the opposite happened. I gained about 30lbs. I got the bright idea in infancy sobriety to low-carb. My sponsor about had a stroke LOL! I was quickly miserable and she told me one thing at a time and that the weight would resolve itself. If not, I could deal with it later. My blood pressure was high and I was put back on meds. Since the first of this year, I've lost 17lbs and I'm back off the meds. It's slow but that's because I'm not really putting much into it LOL! My next project is to quit smoking and then I'll deal with the weight issue.
Hugs,
Kellye
