Quitting is Easy-I've done it a 100 times

Basically the title says it all. I am the poster child of relapse. 20+ years of hard drinking and everyday for the last 10 years with a few breaks. I will quit and stay sober for 3-6 months then pick up a 6 pack or have a beer at a friends house. Then a couple of days later a couple more then within a week or two it is 12 or more every single night. This goes on for months until I cannot eat or basically function beyond a basic struggle of faking that everything is ok while being completely miserable. I realize my fate if I continue on this path and pattern and once again struggle through the withdrawal and detox to gain a few months of sobriety only to repeat the process. At this point I have re-entered the road of sobriety and hope and pray with all my heart that I remain on this path this time around. Anybody that thinks this all breaks down to a simple choice has obviously never experience the "fun" (IE: Hell) of addiction. Most alcoholics are the strongest people I have ever ran across in my life and I have been through two branches of the military both during wartime.
The moral of this story is that setting the stuff down is the first step in a long journey of hard work and treatment if you are going to succeed and stay sober.
I dont know if this has or will help anybody else but writing it and reading it back to myself helps me and reminds me of things that I already know but do not always practice. When you get lost look for the roadmap. This is mine.
Thanks for letting me share.

lol

LOL Carol, I meant Needtobe.. They know me too well to know that the title was serious. It is serious in a twisted and sad way though. Thank you for your comments about the service, just did my job but appreciate the thanks.

We all know quitting is hard. We've all tried a 100 times, but think of it this way...It is easier than staying quit. Hence, quiting a 100 times. Staying stopped is the hardest thing.
