Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.
By the Grace of my Higher Power and
people like you here in SR, I havent had
a drink of alcohol since 8-11-90. For that
im truely grateful.
Until we came into A.A. most of us had
tried desperately to stop drinking. We were
filed with the delusion that we could drink
like our friends. We tried time and again
to take it or leave it, but we could do
neither. We always lapsed into ceaseless,
unhappy drinking. Wives or husbands,
family, friends, and employers threw up
their hands in hurt bewilderment, in
despair, and finally in disgust. We wanted
to stop. We realized that every reason for
drinking was only a crazy excuse.
HAVE YOU GIVEN UP EVERY EXCUSE
FOR DRINKING?

I am trying as hard as I can!
Today I took a stressful situation that would have enabled me to drink in the past and I just left the house, went shopping for a couple hours, and came home and found things much better. I have to admit I expected the house to be a wreck when I came home from my meeting, and I had that pent-up frustration and resentment that only made things worse. Instead of blowing my top I took the space I needed and deserved. I am really working on seeing my part in this disease and try to remember that "alcohol is only a symptom"
Since it's 1:15 here it's my eleventh day!!!!!

Hmmmmn...in the past, I would have been using reasons to drink to explain why I repeatedly picked up, even though I knew it would only result in another disaster.
Eventually, with the help of AA, I realized there were no reasons...and, that I would only be looking for excuses to drink. I soon ran out of excuses...as long as I remembered to think the drink through before I resorted to going to the liquor store, carrying the bottle to the register and paying for it, bringing it home, opening and pouring it, looking at it for a minute or so, putting it up to my mouth, taking a swig, and letting it travel down my throat and into my stomach.
Let's see...I count at least 10 - 12 actions that I must take in order to flush everything I have worked so hard for down the toilet! I've always said, "No one is suddenly struck drunk!" It takes considerable conscious effort to get to that point, and I can think of nothing...no excuse that would make it worth throwing it all away.
