whoo hoo

hello everyone.

I need to ask a favor. And its only to keep up my strength. And for everyone else as well. I know that asking may be selfish but i am going thru all sorts of crap and had a big realization today. And as hard as it has been to keep up my sobriety thru all this bs, i am doing my best. i go thru all the phases of everything, from minute to minute. one minute feeling like why go on? to... i know i will make it thru everything and i deserve more than this and all the garbage. But my strength? it fades and comes back faster than i can communicate.
If i could promise to do the same for eveyone here, would you all send me on this thread one positive saying for the day? Or one really good piece of wisdom? Or just a hello so that when i wake up in the morning i wont go thru the day feeling so alone til i can get to somewhere and talk or think or work past this. For the first night in weeks, i am not crying and i realize that my strength is in there but it has been drained for so long that anything positive has a hard time remaining.

So if you have it in you to try to better yourself by bettering someone else, i ask to keep this thread going and to feed off of each others positivity.

HP bless

Ask and you shall receive.

Hmmm...how about this.

If you cry because the sun has gone out of your life,
your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars.

Hang in there and draw strength. You can do this...

Hi Mertyl!

I don't know what's been going on with you because I was away from here for awhile, but I've seen your posts before! You have more strength than you realize. If Dreamz doesn't mind, I am giving you the link to her incredibly encouraging post here on the "Hands Across Time Zones" thread. She's been contributing a Word Of The Day there, and today it was STRENGTH. It really helped me and I hope it will encourage you, too! You are SO worth it!

Take care,
Jane

Not only did you link to Dreamz w-o-t-d "strength", but Mertyl use "positivity", which was Dreamz's previous word. We're not really sure if it's a "word", but it's been working for everyone, so if it aint broke...

Hope you're doing better Mertyl. Take care of yourself and know you're not being selfish.

hi sweetie! good to have you along on this ride with me! what a great idea! speaking for myself, i can always use wisdom and positivity in my life!

hmmm...now this late at night my thinking cap is all thought out...but in the meantime, here are some good bible verses. the philippians one is one that i say to myself when things get rough. just saying it makes me feel better.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
--Philippians 4:13

His glorious power will make you patient and strong enough to endure anything, and you will be truly happy.
--Colossians 1:11

and the words of the inimitable Dorothy Parker (who was a drunk but such a great wit)---- "what fresh hell is this?"
followed by the words of Winston Churchill (who was also reportedly a drunk)---- "when you're going through hell, keep on going"

then, there's the old standby..."this too shall pass." (and it's true. i have to say this every day just to keep myself from bashing my head against the wall as my children once again war over a toy)

thanks meryl! you brighten this board!

It's been several years but I always remember UNC coach Jim Valvano's speech at the ESPY (?) awards when he said as he was dying of cancer "Don't give up. Don't EVER give up!"

Mertyl...
I can relate with you about reaching out to receive support. I have done that soooo much, and I have a great support system. But here is the catch, no matter how many times someone says I am doing good, or I have come so far...or I am told a great inspiring quote. It never lasts long, and there I am ALONE with myself AGAIN. (trust me I am STILL learning to TRY and do this....) Take the encouraging words, enjoy them....but find your inner peace by filling your own soul with the personal relationship with your higher power. Or find peace in meditation...anything that allows you to feel peace in the stillness of silence. I struggle with being alone with my thoughts, I just want someone to fix it for me. Unfortunatly the ultimate solution is doing our own work...and the encouragment of others is the icing on our cake!! You are worth the effort, give yourself the attention and self discovery, I believe it will lead to self love.
Don't ever focus on your faults, it is a waste of energy....just move on and do the best you can, there you can expect miracles.

thanks everyone for the posts. lots if stuff here to start my day and i wrote some down to bring to work with me for those moments of weakness.

i have just recently for some reason started listening to country music. theres one song and i am not 100 percent sure of the chorus but its something to this "if you're going thru hell, keep on going, down slow down..(a few lines i am not remembering as it is 3am my time and i need to get ready for work) ..cause you might get out before the devil even knows you're there.

Love it. And hope i hear that before any sad music this morn.lol.
have a great sober day everyone and thanks for the support.

Rodney Atkins - If You're Going Through Hell

Great lyrics to help set sail today....
im sure almost everyone of us can relate to this song.

Well you know those times
When you feel like there's a sign there on your back
Say's I don't mind if ya kick me
Seems like everybody has
Things go from bad to worse
You'd think they can't get worse than that
And then they do

You step off the straight and narrow
And you don't know where you are
Use the needle of your compass
To sew up your broken heart
Ask directions from a genie
In a bottle of Jim Beam
And she lies to You
That's when you learn the truth

If you're going through hell
Keep on going, Don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Well I been deep down in that darkness
I been down to my last match
Felt a hundered different demons
Breathing fire in my back
And I knew that if I stumbled
I'd fall right into the trap that they were laying, Yeah

But the good news
Is there's angels everywhere out on the street
Holding out a hand to pull you back upon your feet
The one's that you been dragging for so long
You're on your knees
You might as well be praying
Guess what I'm saying
If you're going through hell
Keep on going, Don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, If you're going through hell
Keep on moving, Face that fire
Walk right through it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

If you're going through hell
Keep on going, Don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, If you're going through hell
Keep on moving, Face that fire
Walk right through it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there
Yeah you might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there
Yeah.

I love that song--it's so motivating.

On the same subject, one of my favorite country songs is "Life Ain't Always Beautiful (but it's a beautiful ride)" by Gary Allan:

Life ain't always beautiful
Sometimes it's just plain hard
Life can knock you down, it can break your heart

Life ain't always beautiful
You think you're on your way
And it's just a dead end road at the end of the day

But the struggle makes you stronger
And the changes make you wise

And happiness has it's own way of takin' its sweet time

[chorus]
No, life aint always beautiful
Tears will fall sometimes
Life aint always beautiful
But it's a beautiful ride

Life aint always beautiful
Some days I miss your smile
I get tired of walkin' all these lonely miles

And I wish for just one minute
I could see your pretty face
Guess I can dream, but life dont work that way

But the struggles makes me stronger
And the changes make me wise
And happiness has it's own way of takin' its sweet time

No, life aint always beautiful
But I know I'll be fine
Hey, life aint always beautiful
But its a beautiful ride.
What a beautiful ride.

I hope you have a great day!

Oh dear. Now you've done it. That song makes me bawl my eyes out. But not today!!!
This stuff really helped. Despite all the crap, today is the second day of no crying and i have tried to stay happy and positive all day. Plus being peeved and disgusted by a major source of this is helping.

as another positive step and something for u's as well, i picked up a book i've had on the shelf called "tired of being tired." So far, so good. Lots of good pointers.

have a great sober night everyone
