Anyone taking Effexor for social anxiety? How do you feel it works?

Search through the mental health forums here and you'll find a lot of opinions. I took EffexorXR for a year, it took awhile to be effective but the results were very good for me. Just remember that we will all have a different experience and reaction to SSRI's. What works for one of us may not sit right with another, I had to try a few before I settled on one that worked.

Do you still take effexor? My son was just prescribed it a month ago at 75mg and now they increased it to 175mg. He suffers from social anxiety and depression but smokes weed as well. Trying to tell him that the weed could be causing it is like talking to the wall. His therapist and doctor both know he smokes weed and don't seem to think like me. Hoping this new dose will help because his personal hygiene is awful and he just sits in his room when not commuting back and forth to college.

I tapered off after a year, it's been 9 years since I last used it. I know that it would've been non-effective had I been drinking, I'm not sure about using it and smoking marijuana.
