I'm living Benzo free

Hi!

I quit taking klonopin on Aug.24, 2014! :)

It was suggested to me today by a friend here on SR that I post a thread on living benzo free ( or trying to do so ) in order to try to find more people who have or are trying to also quit benzos.

I will be posting everyday, so feel free to chime in w/your stories!

God bless! :ring

Im living benzo free as well! My last klonopin was in Nov 2014. The habit wast as massive as a couple years back where I endured a hellish W/D that lasted 6 months before any normalcy occurred! My vision was blurred for the longest time. I was stupid enough to begin taking them again but really tried to moderate... Didn't work to well. I was so impaired by the benzo's looking back on it, even though at the time I thought I wasn't.

Almost 4 months free from methadone and benzos. Two of the worst W/D's in terms of length. Starting to feel better though being much more proactive, exercise, diet, SR daily!

Great thread!

I need to become sober for a while and then I'll start to taper my Klonopin. Thanks for the hope and vision of being completely free someday.

Ty so much for sharing this with me, Justin. I was beginning to feel a bit isolated ( but not defeated! )

I, too, was addicted to both opiates & benzos! Numb to the world & to the feelings that I long ago locked up deep inside of me ( which I will have to start addressing soon! )

I actually didn't think anyone would reply today, so I'm super happy you did! Ty! :):):)

kzaug2014 03-26-2015 04:58 PM

Wow! Two people, Marcus!

So happy to have you reply, Marcus! :)

I didn't have a chance to taper, so you'll have it a bit easier. But, idwant to imply that it'll be a walk in the park. Because it won't!

But, I'll ( & others, I'm sure ) will be here for you for any support you may need! :):):)

kzaug2014 03-26-2015 04:59 PM

How long have you been sober, Marcus?

kzaug2014 03-26-2015 05:10 PM

Sorry, I didn't mean to pry...got a bit over excited to have company! Lol! :)

marcusflowers 03-26-2015 05:18 PM

Thanks for asking. I am sober 27 days. I plan on staying sober for life. It's just time.

kzaug2014 03-26-2015 05:47 PM

Well done, Marcus!

You know when I quit my DOC's, but I also quit suboxine on Feb 25, 29 days ago!

I had a 1 day relapse on Mar.15 ( not w/my DOC, but w/something entirely new to me & I chuck it up to being an idiot...for that day! )

Again, congrats on 27, soon to be 28 days!!! :)

kzaug2014 03-27-2015 06:07 AM

Good morning! Another day, benzo free! :):):)

kzaug2014,

Good for you getting off of them! I whipped them a few years back, and it was a slow titration down. Brutal to say the least, but have never looked back. I never knew they were addictive, and when I was trying to stop the doctor kept trying to give me more! Crazy. When I finally got off of them for good I was proud and told him I was drug free, and told me if I was not going to take the meds he prescribed then I needed to see a new doc. Guess what, I got me a new doc. Was on Zolpidiem, restoril and Xanax.

Aaahhhh; freedom from that which enslaves us.

Great job, kzaug.

Hi Herradura,
Thx so much for sharing a bit of your story! :)
Yes, doctors can & do sometimes push drugs ( when you start delving into the pharmaceutical co.'s role in it, it really becomes a nightmare! )
4yrs ago, my doctor quit ( w/no warning ) & I was suddenly cut off my meds. I went through what I can only explain as "the living pits of hell." But, you know this.
3mos into what I now know were withdrawals ( but didn't then, ) I saw a new psychiatrist. I told her I was a walking nervous breakdown. She told me, "well of course, you need to be on klonopin for the rest of your life!"
I have no ill will towards her ( who has the mental energy to hold grudges??? )
Ty for replying, I really thought I was alone, but now realize that all I had to do was go looking! Lol! :)

SoberLeigh, you are so right! And, you are so sweet!
Thx for your support! I truly appreciate it! :)

I am happy for you, kzaug, benzos were a problem for me when I was still drinking and using.

It was my secondary drug of choice, right behind alcohol.

I hope that you pursue a program of recovery of your choosing to enhance your prospects of staying clean.

I would be dead if I hadn't done so.

Ty SoberC!

Ttytt, I've been thinking about that a lot lately. So far, I've been leaning on SR & the friends I've made here. But, I've been thinking about attending AA or NA. I've never been too comfortable in groups, but I'm sure that's 1 of the things I need to work on, soooo.

Plure 03-27-2015 10:55 AM

Great to hear you're benzo free! While I didn't use Klonopin much I was so afraid of getting hooked on it...mainly because it worked so dang well.

From all the reading I've done, as well as my personal experience, learning cognitive coping skills is really the best approach. Plus there are other meds with a lot less addictive qualities such as SSRI's and Buspar to help control anxiety and depression.

Keep on keepin' on! :)

kzaug2014 03-27-2015 11:31 AM

Ty for your reply, Plure!
You were very smart, imo, to never start klonopin ( wish I knew what I know now! :) )I'm looking into other avenues as we speak.

Have a great day! :):):)

kzaug2014 03-28-2015 03:57 PM

Hello! Always benzo free! Having a bad day, but who doesn't.

marcusflowers 03-29-2015 08:04 AM

kzaug. I'm giving the taper a try. Very slow taper. So slow that I will only have 4 extras when I pickup my next prescription on March

marcusflowers 03-29-2015 08:06 AM

when I pick up my prescription on April 5
