Ruminating = Anxiety?

I have been in recovery for almost 3 years. I've had a few 'bumps' along the road, but have been pretty much sober during this time. One thing that has plagued me since giving up drinking is rumination on the things that I did while drunk. I know regret and shame are things we all feel but I seem to be focusing way too much of my thinking on stupid/embarrassing things that happened while I was drunk. I can't seem to control these thoughts as much as I should.

Could my ruminating be an anxiety issue?

Just this word caught my attention as it is my favorite word to describe my qualifier at times. Have you considered a fair 12 step approach as a way to come to terms with your past? Or if you practice a faith, is there a ritual of forgiveness? Good luck ferreting out whether it is guilt or anxiety.

I totally know what you mean. I'm 90 days sober, and haunted by things.... I'm with you.
