ocd or racing thoughts?

OCD
What are obsessions?
Obsessions are thoughts, images or impulses which come into your head no-matter how hard you try to block them out. They are always about something dangerous or upsetting and they make you feel anxious, guilty or scared in case the thought is true. Obsessions can also be images of frightening or upsetting things, like stabbing someone or running someone over, or they may be urges to do something you don't want to do. Obsessions are always disturbing and unpleasant because they focus on things which are important to you and which you don't want to be true. Most people try to cope with their obsessions by reassuring themselves that the thought is not true or by doing something to lessen the risk of danger (e.g. checking the stove, washing your hands).

this describes my mind to a "T" could not be anymore right on the mark than that, unbelievable, but my question is this:

what is the difference in ocd?than racing thoughts??

I have been on Fluvoxomine, and was on the maximum dose, and had built up a tolerence to it, so was put on Colamopine, have only been on that for about 2 mo. but so far my obsessive thoughts have become worse. what are some other meds that ya'll have been on? do they work?what is the mg.?

I DEF have obsessive thoughts also...Racing thoughts are just that...things that keep popping into your head over and over, you feel like your mind is speeding...With me, I notice, if it's something I don't want to keep thinking about it happens more...but it has happened with things that don't bother me... I could be wrong but I believe OCD refers more to, for example, say touching something 3 times before you can walk away, or washing your hands constantly, checking the stove is shut off over and over again before you can leave the house, thinking something bad will happen if you don't do something a certain amount of times...e.t.c.

the "compulsion' of OCD is just what you said, having to do "rituals" etc. but i suffer mainly the "obsessive" part of OCD , things stuck in my head, etc. but i do do this thing with my feet when i walk, my steps have to be even, or if i touch something with my right hand, i need to with my left also, but its really not that bad compared to most people..what meds are you on Sweets?

That's my understanding and experience with OCD. Sometimes I'll drive around the block three times thinking I left the garage door open when I left the house, or left an appliance turned out. Yesterday I thought I forgot to turn the crock pot on and was worried about the roast spoiling. At times I'm a compulsive cleaner, I can't go to sleep if my kids left fingerprints on the wall. The funny thing is that I only experience this about my home, I don't notice OCD tendencies anywhere else.

My sister has OCD and she is very compulsive about going up and down stairs and doing this little dance and touching the walls in a certain way. When she was a kid we just thought it was a some goofy kid thing, but learned later what it really was. She also has a hard time getting rid of anything that belongs to her kids or school pictures we send to her every year. She feels like its bad luck if she throws them away. She even kept the hair when she cut my 3 daughters hair. My parents tried to get her to get some counselling or medication, but she refused and to this day, deals with her obsessions. I think she even has to eat and chew her food in a certain way. I feel really bad for her.
